Hello,
Following my previous post regarding the Verney Carron about spare parts and reliability I did not get much reply other than one fellow CGN member.
This leads me to think these aren't popular at all so I might be better with something else such as a Sauer?
I want nice wood, bolt action, detacheable mag, short barrel, iron sight and the sauer Select battue is what I have in mind but it's a model that was developped for the French market and doesn't seem to be available here.

I saw other models but either the wood isn't as high grade as I'd like or they don't have irons...
Anyone knows dealer who have a Sauer Select or can import them?
Ellwood has one but I'm looking for one in 300 wm.

How about a Merkel Helix? We have one here with grade 8 wood, detachable magazine, fluted barrel with iron sights in 300 Win Mag.
It still of course has all the great standard advantages of the Helix like the straight pull bolt and caliber exchanges from 222 to 9.3x62
We will post a picture here very shortly.
Link to specs on our website are below.

That is a beautiful rifle. A nice blend on modern and traditional styles. Slightly out of my price range unfortunately.

You will have a difficult time finding such a firearm. The only thing I suggest is to special order it with a retailer and put in the time and wait.

I would contact Tradex to see if there is any further information they have. Search this site as one of the members bought a VC in 9.3 and was very impressed.
When I handled the Sauer 101 I was not impressed especially at that price point and would take a sako or even a tikka over the sauer 101 or 100 every time.

Indeed a nice rifle but a bit out of my price range. For that I'd be looking at the S404.
I'm looking for a 2-3k rifle I don't know how much for the Battue model but I've seen one similar at ellwood unfortunately wrong caliber at 2800$

yeah I've seen the sako but I just don't get that boner I have when I look at the Sauer.
Tikka nice rifles but I definitely want a higher end/wood model.

Would save then for a used sauer 200 or 202. Best way I can describe the Sauer 101 or 100 is lipstick on a pig.

How about a Tikka Battue for 1/3 the price? Fits all your specs. I Really love short barrel bolts with sights, and want a Sauer....but got a battue and am very impressed.

I bought a Sauer 100 in 6.5 CM. I like it a lot. I am not trying to compare it to a 202 or 200 or other higher grade, but it is a very good rifle in my books.
The synthetic stock is relatively stiff and solid.
Trigger is very excellent++.
1/2 MOA with my handloads.
Takes remington bases which is a smart idea.
Bolt is a short throw.
Double ejectors.
Nice longer length of pull as is most euro rifles.
Nice weight. Cost just under $1000.

My 2 cents...if you want a VC rifle, and intend to keep it and not become jaded and sell it, I would go for one; especially in a takedown version if you intend to travel.
The aftermarket for the euro rifles is relatively smaller compared to the USA market. Doesn't mean it is bad, just not as wanted.

looks nice but I really want a battue version the only one I see are nice but not the config I look for.

You sure you want a short barreled 300mag? It's not going to give you much velocity over a 30'06 with a bunch more muzzle blast and more recoil. Hell I'm not even fond of a 30-06 with 20" barrel for the blast it makes...
What exactly are you going to use it for?

I suggest you research, Gun Broker, Guns America and Guns International. If you find what you are looking for and wish to purchase, contact: Prophet River Firearms and talk to Clay.

something short and compact for moose hunting in the bush and bear hunting as well.
I know I'd loose velocity but I believe it would still be more precise at longer ranges.
I kind of fell in love with the design of the blaser R8 but a bit out of my price range and would prefer to have more standard bolt action.

If I end up not finding anything I'll probably go with a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 which is way different but I had my eyes on this before.
