Hi Guys,
I have searched the internet furiously the last few days and i am trying to find a Canadian dealer for the receiver type SKS mount/scope for my Rifle. I found what i want at SKSMAN but due to all the regulations on exporting / importing i want to find this in Canada instead. I saw a couple of models at Marstar but their webpage says "out of stock" i was looking for (Famous maker 4 x 25 scope) or SKS see-thru scope mount with integral 1" scope rings (5th Gen.) or something like those....i know many say the receiver scopes are crap but i would like to try it out just for plinking and if it doesn't work then i won't be out a lot of money....:D.
thanks

Have you tried High Caliber out of BC?

hical.ca (He's a member here also)

Yeah i look at his website he has one SKS Mount there but i was kind of looking for something like these if at all possible.
url]http://www.sksman.com/acces/scopes1.php[/url] i really like this one .......Famous Maker 4X25 Compact Scope with White Bridge Box Mount.

I would suggest, not getting a cheap mount for the sks, my buddy has tried several of the over the receiver mounts and all failed.

Go with the BC tactical one that replaces the iron sights.

That looks nice, the receivers cover scopes are really that bad eh?

cabelas dot ca has the mount you are looking for in the optics section.

But (like posted above) the reviews are not very good.

i bought 2 of these dustcover mounts the first one i filed so carefully and made it so i could get the pin in and out which meant it very quickly got loose. the second i filed a little less carefully and made it so i had to tap the pin in with a brass hammer it lasted a bit better but after less than 200 rounds it was loose. they are garbage and look stupid anyways. i might consider a bc tactical rear leaf mount but for now its just iron sights and original.
you can also get a quick mount ring with a cam lock to detach scope but i dont know if there is any good return to zero with the quick release.

Maybe i will be smart about this and hold off as i am not hearing a lot of support for dust covers...lol. I like the BC Tactical sight are they hard to mount?

I helped my buddy install his, we were drinking and it took us 20 mins, inbetween smoke breaks and beers

lol.....that is pretty quick, i have been reading a lot about the Choate Mount as being the best type to hold a zero just i am a little nervous about getting my SKS tapped and drilled.

It depends what type of optic you want to use when you consider the type of mount. The B.C. tactical mount can be used with a compact red dot thats about it, anything larger does not work. You also loose the use of your iron sights. The best overall choice is a drill and tap mount like the Choates or Weaver Converta Mount. So many more positive options when you use either of the drill and tap mounts.

I am going to call around tomorrow and get some quotes from some local gunsmiths to see how much it would cost to get drilled and tapped...i was reading some reviews on the Choate all good....ultimately i would just like to have a plain old scope to be able to see my target better at the range. My eyes are not as good as they used to be.

Choate is the way to go, theyre made specifically for the SKS and even have a recess underneath to use the irons while still keeping the scope low. Hical sells them, as does SKSman. SKSman is great to deal with, he ships to Canada with no problems. I'd still go with Hical however as it will be much faster.

Has anyone mounted the scope mount that Interammo offers. I like that the fact that the Choate has 4 rivet holes as compared to the 2 on the I/A offering but they allow for the continued use of stripper clips.

The Choates mount comes with good instructions for mounting. It does not have to be a gunsmith to drill and tap four holes. It could be a small machine shop or a person with basic common sense and a drill press. The last person that got a gunsmith quote was 1 hour labour. The fastners that are in the Choates kit are 8-40, pretty hard to find a tap local for that thread size, most people change them up to a standard 8-32.
