I was going to chime in, but this thread has turned sideways. There are many other CGN’rs I’d rather give advice to.....
I wish. My dad died of cancer 4 years ago. I’m looking all over. On many gun sites, retail and private. Something will come up. I guess I just have to be Patient.I also recently decided that I "needed" a nice o/u shotgun. I just bugged my dad until he gave me his Superposed. Have you tried that route? Haha!
I have exactly the gun you are looking for and might be willing to sell it. Beretta, high-rib, 32" barrels, engraved, beautiful wood, excellent condition, hits all your markers except one. No one is going to sell you a gun worth $8,000 for $4,000. Lower your expectations or raise your price.Hello peeps. I’ve been searching for a while now for a quality O/U. I’m leaning towards Browning and Beretta.
I want it for sporting clays, trap skeet etc. Maybe to hunt one day. So sporting could work too I think.
Would prefer a mint used or if anyone knows of any gun shops with great deals. New or used.
30” plus barrels and 3” chambers. High rib is good. I’m not opposed to a semi like a Beretta A400 multi target as well.
I’ve put a WTB ad but not getting much response.
Budget say 4K or less but worth more obviously.
If anyone knows someone private or a retail shop that has anything let me know here or by PM.
THANKS
I have more than one shotgun. I bought them all used. I enjoy using them for the various purposes at hand. From my perspective, new B guns have gone up in price substantially in the last few years. I suspect this is due to clever marketing. A new Silver Pigeon with 2X4 wood is going for $2700 ????
Anyway, I think there are good deals on older guns - Superposed, Win 101 XTR, SKB, older high-grade Citori's, etc. Sure they may have fixed chokes, 2 3/4 inch chambers, etc., but you can get a heck of a gun for half of your budget - which of course means that you can (will) get two guns.
BTW - All shops are obliged to collect sales tax, even on consignment. If you dont want to pay tax, keep an eye on the EE.

well, that's a reasonable price point for a nice O/U, can easily find a great condition Caesar Guerini, Rizzini, FAIR, Blaser F16, Browning XS, might find an older Krieghoff 32 in that range, but it will be well used.
The Guerinis are well finished, and seem to hold up fairly well.
Rizzini and FAIR are also well finished, but may pose problems if they need repair.
Blaser typically has nice lumber, but the receiver is elegantly plain. F16 new with Gr IV lumber is in and around 4k
Krieghoff, well, you decide if you like the look or not, but they cant be killed.
Browning XS sporting can and do have some killer wood, bit hit and miss, receiver is a bit dull though. Older Golden Clays models are in that price range too.
Another option, is finding a 687 Silver pigeon with the receiver engraving grade you like, and then having a stock made for it.
No real shortage of options, but patience is the key here, guns pop up all the time on the EE, And yes, i agree with you, there is nothing more frustrating then dealers who charge sales tax on used guns, since a lot of them dont. I recently got screwed by that.
For me, the search is the most entertaining part. And nothing beats the feeling of that perfect find at a good price.
Good luck.
Romeo, it looks like you are trying to buy champagne with a beer budget. As you have noticed yourself, there are some fine new guns by Beretta, Browning and others within your $4000 budget but they are too "plain" for your taste. I would suggest that you have several options...
Lower your "tastes" and buy what your budget allows
Raise your budget and buy what your heart desires
Search patiently and diligently for a used gun that meets both your desire and your budget and don't be afraid to bargain.
It looks like you are another dreamer, always looking to get something desirable for far under market value. Dream on, you are subject to the same market forces as the rest of us
What makes you and the OP think the dealer is not required by law to charge sales tax? If you don't see the tax, it's either because he's doing an off the books cash deal or he has included it in the price.
I ended up finding a really nice gun. Thanks to all the good peeps for your help.
