Speaking of Springfield synthetic stocks...from the few pics I've seen, they look very much like USGI stocks in perfect condition. Meaning, I doubt they make their own...they just probably bought up 30,000 synthetic stocks years ago from the various suppliers.
Unless these are newly made but carbon-copy of the USGI stocks...
To the OP, have you considered just finishing your walnut stock with Boiled Linseed Oil, or maybe Tung Oil? Should do just fine for hunting weather. I mean, such an oil impregnated wood stock survived years of WW2 combat on Lee Enfields and M1 Garands, and in the M-14's case, countless cold war exercises in Germany and America. The synthetic was really only actually needed during extended operations in ultra-humid Vietnam...
Now, I'm not trying to drag you away from the USGI synth, because that seems to be a great choice for accuracy without spending a buttload on aluminum stocks...but wood performs well and has a charm that no synthetic or aluminum stock has.
