Hey guys, I'm recreating the CAR15 I was issued in basic training in the IDF (way back in 2006). I have an old N1 stock, teardrop forward assist, and an A1 pistol grip coming from Brownells in the States, but they can't ship flash hiders to Canada.

Does anyone know where I can find an A1 flash hider in Canada? Thanks!

It's built on a Colt Canada lower, old C8 upper, and marked Diemaco BCG!

The hard part is probably going to be finding the carry handle adapter for the meprolight.

Nice old school setup!
Try EE and they can be found reasonably priced.
Also some CGN vendors may carry, such as CTCS :

Did yours have the brass deflector too? Probably but I dunno.

Were you a lone solider or did you live there?

Cool. Must have been quite the adventure.

I'm sure you know but technically it wouldn't be a CAR 15 aka Colt 605/607, it'd be an M16A1 carbine or possibly a Colt 723 M16A2 carbine. Though commonly referred to as CAR-15s...

But as you say, being a hodgepodge of parts it's really it's own beast. What was the lower marked as?

Maybe Zahal can help with the Meprolight mount?

I'm pretty sure it was an M16A1 lower. I can't find any close up photos of the markings though. I'll check with Zahal and North Sylva and see if they can get the adapter.

Some details on your rifle.

M16A1 lower
Colt fiberlite stock
14.5” .625” barrel
CAR lock ring, likely two position buffer tube
Straight slip ring

You’ll need a lock washer for the A1 flash hider.

You have a reasonable clone going but the C8 barrel has .750 FSB and a much larger flare at the muzzle. Just figured you’d want to know since the little details seem to be important to you.

I completely get it because I’ve been wanting to do a proper C8 clone forever but the prices were a little out of reach. I missed the sale at SFRC. I’ve been looking for a large forward assist for over ten years but just recently found it in the EE. Now I just need a barrel.

ETA: CanAm has Norinco barrels for cheap that are the proper profile. You’d need to have a FSB installed and find another C7 style upper as I’d leave the C8 upper as is.

Wow, thanks man, this is awesome. I went with the C8 upper because with my limited knowledge and google-fu, I couldn't for the life of me find a closer looking upper. Now the rifle is sort of a Canadian-ized version with all the Diemaco and Colt Canada stuff. If you're looking for C8 uppers like this one, I picked mine up at CDNGunWorx and I've seen lots at Nordic Marksman, but they sell out so fast.

I ordered the Fiberlite stock replica from Brownells along with the A1 grip and the teardrop assist. They've got replica furniture there for really cheap, it's pretty sweet.

Fiberlite from Brownells?? The only company I know of making mil spec dia Fiberlite stocks is M&A parts
.

A friend of a friend (as the saying goes) of mine in the US of A was an armorer over there for years with IDF.

His specialty was piecing together M-16's and making them work.

I can remember one of his looooooong stories about,,,, well I would take this lower,,, add this upper,,, change the barrel out and so on, so on.

Long story short, he used what ever he could, mix n match to keep these babies barkin.

BTW, nice setup, plain n simple, just the way I like it.

If nobody in Canada has the A1 FH's in stock, Innovative Industries LLC down south makes there own. I've ordered a couple from them in the past.
