I have a Mauser 98 (8x57) with a military issue barrel. The stock is really messed up beyond my desire to repair it. I love shooting this old piece of history and don't want to part with it, but I need to find a cost effective stock replacement in sporter style. Any leads would be great. I'm not a pro so don't be afraid to be detailed in your response if I've described anything incorrectly.

what would you call cost effective? who made your Mauser ? there not all the same . pictures ? have you looked in the sporting rifle parts on the Equipment Exchange?
have you looked at Trade Ex Canada ?

Boyds has nice stocks, many styles and colours to choose from. They ship direct to your door aswell.

This ^ . And as gaff says , take a look on Tradex under gunstocks , they usually have a few 98 sporter stocks for reasonable prices . You could also contact Western Gunparts , the last time I was in there they had about 5 98 sporter stocks in their bin up front .

I have an old wood sporter stock for a K98 in the basement I could let go cheap. Needs refinishing but otherwise fine.

You could look for an original replacement would not match the rifle but then you could shoot it the way it was meant to be shot

I've had difficulty discovering who made the rifle as it appears that the much that could ID it has been ground off. Also, all the serial numbers are mismatched, which makes me think it may be a Russion capture rifle. That's about all I know about it.
