So,
Finally picked up my first antique, a super nice Smith and Wesson No 2 Old Army 32 Long Rimfire. Not sure what took me so long, I guess it has been my battle dealing with my Winchester addiction. Anyway, I would like to find some black powder 32 long to try it out, just singles or a crappy box, as well as a really nice full box to have with it, but also, I’d like to find an original display / box for the gun, or find someone who can make a nice one. Any idea where I might find an original (good luck) or does anyone know anyone who makes real nice display cases or boxes for antique handguns? Be nice also to have some original accoutrements too, cleaning rod, oil can, etc. Gun was made in 1865. Hope I look that good on 155 years!
Matt

Tks. I found a guy in the US that makes some pretty nice cases, but with the low dollar, plus I’d like to give someone up here some business. Yeah, part of the gun is the search for the old stuff, for sure.
Best,
Matt

you are probably better off to but a few 32 cases that are modified to use 22 blanks as primers and load them yourself with black powder

cheers mooncoon

My moustache stood straight out when I saw your. No. 2.

Hard to imagine one in better condition. Looks like the only finish loss is the drag line on the cylinder. Best I've seen.

Try Bills Cases he might be able to help or point you in the right direction.

Regards,
Powderman

Thanks for the advice Mooncoon! Guess I need to get into reloading...
Powderman, there is a small patch of wear on the bottom front barrel flat, but that is really the only wear, it is very nice. Deserving of a nice display case. I will look into Bill’s Cases. Tks for the heads up!

If you’re a little bit handy with stain or paint, you can find display cases at Michaels, the hobby shop chain. They’re all over the place. I’ve used their stuff a few times. Most cases come unfinished so you’d have to paint or stain to your taste.

Unfortunately, I’m not super handy, any case I made would do quite a disservice to the old gun, lol. I checked out Bill’s Cases in the US, he makes some real nice stuff. Also found another guy who can make real nice ones. I will likely go with one oif them.
My problem now, and addictions always start this way, I would like to find another really nice No 2, or maybe a 1 1/2 to go with it. Then maybe have a case made for the pair. If anyone knows where I might find another really nice one of either Model, please let me know.
Best,
Matt

I have seen some very nice walnut silverware chests at thrift stores, and cheap.
Been tempted at times, but, when can you have them on display, so..........

It’s original, don’t know if it will go bang but you’re more than welcome to it.

I have utilized picture framing businesses for framing and shadow boxing various militaria stuff. They can do more than photographs and medals. I've seen uniforms, swords, and all sorts of stuff displayed nicely. Gather up any accouterments that go with the No. 2, ie. holsters, photos, etc. and frame it all together.

That’s a great idea, never thought of picture framers. Finding the accoutrements I think will be the hardest part. I did find a guy in the US who makes real nice display cases, and has done one for a No 2 of his before, here is a pic of his. I don’t particularly like the zebra wood myself, would go for something darker, but he does very nice work:
