where to find H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70????

So I think I've been bitten by the big bore bug and want to try something larger than 30 cal. I've been eyeballing up the H&R Buffalo Classic in 45/70 Govt since it looks great & seems to be a reasonable price for an entry level rig to see if I want to get into it deeper.
I did look online and best I can determine the only distributors for H&R are big box guys
Wholesale Sports = $410 + tax = shipping
Cabelas = $440 + tax = shipping
Bass Pro = $470 + tax = shipping
Problem is non of them show if they are in stock and the only one in driving distance is Bass Pro who are the most expensive.

Question ............ who else distributes for H&R in Canada??? Anyone have one gently used they might want to part with??
 
If you look up the Gravel Agency they can probably tell you of any dealers nearby. Someone listed a .45-70 Handi-Rifle in the EE in the last couple of days. Shorter barrel and not the same finish as a Buffalo Classic, but cheaper.

I saw that one in the EE but somehow the "eye candy" factor just isn't there. Too utilitarian a design for my taste with a synthetic stock & 10" less barrel length. I really like the lines of the long barrel on the BC and the peep sight setup. The Buffalo Classic will probably be an easier resell down the road if I decide it's not my thing or want to upgrade. Much appreciated though.......... I'll have to check Gravel.
 
"...who else distributes..." Those places are retailers, not distributors. Where you are matters somewhat. "parts unknown" isn't a location.
I think North Sylva is the H&R distributor. Gravel is their Repair shop.

Yeah, my uncle bought a Buffalo Classic a couple years ago, I don't think there's anything else quite like it for the price. The sights on it are pretty decent with inserts and you do feel a little wild west when you're shooting it. I'm personally holding out for a replica Sharps though.
 
Save a bit more money and look for a used Pedersoli or Uberti. For the extra money you will get a much better gun.

I say this while looking at a pair of C Sharps 1875 guns in my gun rack.
 
I have the shorter barrel version and love it.

Buy some a zoom snap caps for yours.
The firing pin can be damaged by dry firing.
And it says as much in the manual.

The previous owner had to replace mine before selling it to me which was damaged by the owner before.
It has the nicest trigger out of all my other Handi rifles.

I have looked at the Long barrel version but I have to admit that the stainless ultra hunter with laminate thumb hole stock would have to come home first. ;)

Sorry, you're right ....... I'm in SW Ontario and it's a distributor I guess I'm looking for if something doesn't come up on the EE in the next month or two.

I agree with the thinking but it all depends how much "a bit more money" is. I'll have to haunt the EE and wait for an opportunity.

Wanting to determine if a particular model of Handi-Rifle gets imported to Canada, I phoned H&R in the U.S. last week to ask who in Canada I should be asking. Reception put me on to some fellow who said, "Let me give you the number for my counterpart in Canada ..." which turned out to be Gravel. And the woman who answered the phone at Gravel answered without hesitation "We don't get that model in Canada." So that sounds like Gravel is the importer, but it could be that the fellow in the U.S. misdirected me and the woman at Gravel told me what she thinks she knows but is wrong...

I guess I could try contacting North Sylva to see if they say something different. Which I would like to hear, if it's true, so I'll let you know how that goes

Well I scored a minty looking 45/70 BC on the EE for a great price. Comes with the original front & rear sights with the inserts and a scope mount and hammer spur to boot! Wound up being cheaper than Le Baron especially with the extras, shipping included & no tax! :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
Now to get reloading supplies. I already decided I'm going to try shooting cast boolits for the first time ever. Should be a ton of fun! Thanks to everyone for your helpful suggestions. Now off to the reloading sub-forum to bone up on reloading for 45/70!!
