where to find Mesa Tactical 870 mag cap?

Update - I could not find one, so I made one. I took an Uncle Mike's mag cap that had a swivel stud on it and removed the factory stud (comes off with a snap ring). Bought a steel QD socket, the type meant to be epoxied and screwed into a wooden stock, for cheap off e-pay. I machined a shallop lip onto the base of the QD socket to fit the hole in the cap where the stud was installed. I then machined a bevelled counter-sunk head onto an M6x1 SOHC and fabricated a stepped flush nut from bar stock to fit the original stepped recess inside the mag cap. Assembled it all and then heavily peened the tip of the screw into the flush nut.

This will get cerakoted with the rest of the gun when it goes to TacOrd.

Good evening to you sir, thanks for sharing the photos of your solution.

As a life long firearm repairer/tinkerer I really love seeing folks come up with their own practical solutions!

A sincere tip of the hat to you for both the concept and making it come to fruition.

Thanks again and all the best to you in the upcoming week.

Price is not the issue, availability is. Mesa seems to no longer make the extended one, only the flush cap, which is not compatible with the magpul Fore-stock.

The key to fabricating one like this and having it be solid is to machine a shoulder on the back of the socket to interference fit with the opening in the cap. It makes everything rigid and keeps the socket perfectly centered so the nut won't loosen in use.
