Does anyone know a Canadian source for the low prifle safety for a swede mauser? I have a sporter rifle that has the old 180° swing safety, which doesn't work well with mounting a scope on it.

I know brownells has them, but i'd rather not pay the exchange/shipping if i can find one on our side of the border.

Also, has anyone swapped their safety out before? Did it just swap out with the olde one, or was there gunsmithing involved?

Might be heresy to suggest altering a real one by shaping to fit under your scope. Heretic me, would buy a 96 safety from Tradex (five bucks) and try just that....

Bringing these beauties back to original configuration is a popular hobby. Maybe just an ad in the EE will yield results. (threaten to cut an original, and a purist might be motivated to find one already modified in a parts drawer)

If it wasn't already altered I am of the same mind and would prefer to see it stay in its original state, but as it is it was in a sporter stock and drilled and tapped for a scope before it founds it way to me, and ideally the new safety would drop in without any additional work so it could be swapped back later on.

Could quite possibly be something here that may work?

It looks like one of the safeties brownells has in stock and is still in the states, might end up just biting the bullet and ordering it and see how it fits.

The thought never crossed my mind. I had no idea the replacement triggers would have a safety built in, i'll have to check them out.
The Bold model trigger he is suggesting are nice triggers. They break clean and come adjusted to around 3 lbs. I've had a couple and loved them. The price is reasonable as well.

I think it would end up too short, no leverage.

Trigger safeties do not block the striker/firing pin.

Here's what you are looking for, and you can order it direct.

I have a spare Bold with safety for the '96, pm if you want to save a few $$ over new.

Did you modify the main spring or is the loctite seal on the set screws broken? Are you not happy about it's performance/pull or why do you want get rid of it?

I may be interested.
