Where to find taller dovetail front sight?

Looks like it had a tang sight at one time eh.

Can't see any signs that its ever wore one but good eye.. it is factory drilled and tapped for one with those same tiny little screws for plugs that were on the receiver's side. So this a model 36 which came D and T on the receiver side, but not on the top for scope mounts. The first model 336 to come out a little later, early 1950s IIRC came D and T for scope mounts. I did have the first generation, model 1936 which was not D and T anywhere you went with buckhorns. Or... was it drilled for a tang sight maybe?? can't remember for sure now, definitely not on the side of the receiver though.

What tool do you use to remove front sight blades? Williams Front Sight Pusher? Homemade? Brass punch?

Brass punch has always worked for me. I remove the inevitable residue of brass on the driving surface with a little oil and fine steel wool. Remember, punch out left to right and file the new sight just a tad, as was noted here already, until you can start it into the dovetail if need be.
