Where to get AR assembled professionally.

Yes, you need a $50 action block.... or a barrel vise, or a bench vise with smooth-ground jaws, or a barre lvise with padded leathe jaws or a set of aluminum soft-jaws for your canadian tire vise, or... or... or...

If you assemble these regularly, buy the action block. If not, I would not recommend the expense.
 
Really not that hard to do...you can't really "mess" up IMO.

Actually you can. While lots of people will post about how they put their upper together without special tools, you run the serious risk of twisting the aluminum upper while torquing the barrel nut on.

Having assembled lots of AR's I can assure you it is ridiculously easy to twist the upper receiver. I have even seen one cracked as a result. Either buy the proper tools or find someone who has the tools to put the thing together.
 
When you get the parts, PM me. I will assemble your upper gratis and send it back to you for the cost of postage. I have all the proper tools and experience and I'm in the Kitchener/Waterloo area.

If you don't have an upper block, the safest thing to do is probably to grab the bbl in a bbl vise and not grab the receiver at all when you torque the bbl nut.

Yes, I made barrel vise blocks out of a couple pieces of 2x4's I just made a channel in the wood with a hammer and chisel. It worked really good and cost me nothing. The only tools I own specifically to AR's is a punch set, ($15) stock wrench ($7) and a barrel wrench ($25) all under 50 bucks and it's easy peezy...
 
It's wise to use the insert in the upper receiver, not just the outer block in the vise.

Some people have a small vise with tiny jaws. That's not good enough.

It's also wise to apply some anti-cease grease to the treads too. And to know how to torque the barrel nut correctly instead of just heaving it on tight in one shot.

Sorry Claven, if it was as simple as grabbing the barrel in a vise, there wouldn't be a need for action blocks or gunsmiths for that matter.

Saving a few bucks may cost you many more than doing it right the first time.
 
This thread makes me happy lol. People are offering to do it for free. Its appreciated.

I ended up sending the uppers to ATR yesterday before I saw any offers :p

I will probably update this thread with pics when they arrive. I got quoted a week turnaround time. Not too bad.

To the people saying do it yourself, I hear you, but I spent to much money to just "have a go at it" if you know what I mean. The lower I'll do though.

Edit: While people are looking at this thread. Does ANYONE know where to get a troy TRX-E 13" rail?
