SHELL SHUCKER are you suggesting scrubbing a copper pad through the barrel will leave copper fouling?
Interesting didn't think that would be possible as it's not under pressure.
I do have Wipeout on hand so I'll run a jag through with some Hoppes to clean then put some Wipeout in there and see if what you say (if that's what you're saying) is true.
I run cast 95% of the time but still have some favorite high pressure hunting loads using jacketed bullets.
So far accuracy has been very acceptable with both until I tried this new cast stuff.
Most folks that run nothing but cast boolits (Like me) through their guns will never use brass or bronze brushes to clean the bore, as they leave traces of copper or brass in the bore which is harmful to lead boolit accuracy. Plastic brushes and patches are best.
All traces of the stuff should be removed to ensure maximum performance. The opposite is true for folks that shoot jacketed bullets. Wipe Out works great if you have the patience to use it properly. IE: Place the rifle muzzle-down in a clean soup can, insert the tube of the Wipe Out down through & ahead of the chamber and give short shots of the stuff(Waiting about 5 seconds between shots) until you start seeing the white foam heading up the chamber, then stop & withdraw the tube.
This is all best done with the gun leaning in a corner in a secure room.(Cause it's gonna be sitting like that over night)
Have a piece of paper towel ready to plug the chamber mouth to prevent the Wipe Out from overflowing into the action or onto stock finishes. Wipe Out will almost instantly ruin oil based stock finish and certain painted on ones as well.
Next morning, look at the colour of the fluid in the can, and if you see a hint of blue (Or lots) that's the dissolved copper residue. You then run snug fitting patches through the bore with a bit of Wipe Out on 'em until they come out clean.
I know this method ain't for everyone, but it has served me well, though it does require careful use. That's why I'm gonna switch over to Butch's Bore Shine as it is an easer and non-harmful product to use. I'll still keep some Wipe Out and Barnes CR-10 on hand though for restoring bores such as old milsurps to shootable condition.
Research and try as many products as needed to get the best & safest results. Mercury......Not a fookin chance.
