Where in Canada can I find current ammo that won't hurt a 30-06 Garand? I read Remington White box ammo somewhere?
Prefer to avoid antique corrosive ammo.

Also, does anyone in Canada carry the gas plug conversion kit to vent some gas pressure to take it easier on the action with slow burning powder?

Commercial .30-06 loadings use a slow burning powder to generate higher velocity. Unfortunately this is not compatible with the gas system of the Garand which is designed to operate with a certain pressure pulse generated at the gas port. The MILSPEC propellant for .30-06 M2 ball which was produced for the Garand is IMR4895. H4895 and IMR4064 are also well suited to the rifle.

AFAIK none of the commercial makers of the so-called military ball .30-06 ammo (Win/Rem/Fed) have certfied it as being compatible with the Garand, although Federal has produced lots of Garand compatible ball ammo for use in CMP shooting activities in the US.

The best bet is to reload using one of the 3 above propellants. I have found them to be entirely reliable and accurate with 150-168gr bullets in many Garands over the years.

I use Remington UMC 150 gr. MC (FMJ-BT) at 2910 fps (which is too high for an M1) so I have a McCann adjustable gas system with the smallest jet/port installed, just enough gas bleeds out the reliably cycle the action....works like a charm

Remington UMC .30-06 / 150 gr. MC................$22.95 (best price I could find)

Cdn Tire 'Win 150 gr' 20.99 @ box + -

I just went. That's ^^ gone way up.

They had Federal for $21 and change, Walmart had ammo for $21 and change, which just went up to $24 and change.

Might want to get some at CT for $21 while the getting's good.

150 gr is cheaper. They have a range of ammo including premium for a lot more.
