Any local (GTA) suppliers to get this?

In a pinch I'll probably try to make one using magnets from dead hard disk drives. :D

Lee Valley Tools has Rare earth Magnets, cheap........some 5 minute epoxy, and bob's your uncle!
LOL I looked at their site today for that reason. Then I just made one using a magnet from a dead hard disk drive. I'll run this contraption by people who use the real thing & see if that's OK. The good thing about the drive magnet: I can position it just below the cut-out on the side of my CRSpeed pouch, and it doesn't interfere with my index finger when I grab a mag that's inside the pouch. Time will tell...

I have seen cheaper options used from Princess Auto, eBay or others. Their strength never gave me sufficient confidence. So I chose to buy the magnets from Double Alpha and attached them to my CR Speed pouches. However a cheaper option is to buy the CR Speed pouch with the magnet already attached, from ericgrauffel.com. It works out to about $60.00.

The Lee Valley 1" Magnet and cup. $7.80/pair.
I screwed them in to the centre of the 1st two of my DAA Mag Pouches.

I can put a full mag on it and jump up and down and they don't move a bit.

I also bought one of these for $6.50 to carry a 5th mag in small of back for loading at beginning or long courses of fire with lots of mag changes.

Again, jump around and it doesn't move. Only issue is magnet stick to Mag really well so you can pull clip of belt if you lift vertically rather than pull off.
Going to affix it to outer belt over winter.

Thanks for the idea Dinsdale; I'll check out those magnets.
Great find! Have you compared their strength to that of the 'proper' magnets?

I tried my ghetto magnet yesterday, and it barely holds a full mag, with a lot of sliding & twisting when I run. Not safe IMO. I compared it to the DAA magnet: the mag stays put, you really have to slide the mag hard to remove it.

I'll try the Lee Valley magnet next, thanks for the info.

As the magnets are only 1" diameter, mags can rotate but not by gravity or movement of you, they can rotate when knocked. You could affix 2 per pouch to prevent this (Stacked vertically) but I have not seen the need yet.Only ran them this year though so still in the testing phase.

It is hard to pull mags off (Horizontally from belt) but easy to slide them off (Vertically from belt i.e. pull up).

Overall , unless I run in to some issues , it was well worth the $15 and tinkering time.

Thanks, I actually bought these, and epoxied the cup to a bracket I made. Works very well, it doesn't have the same pull as a 2" magnet - mags really 'jump' to those from a fair distance - but it does hold a loaded mag securely when running, and a fair bit of force is required to slide the mag off of it vertically.

I'm very happy with it, thanks for helping!

P.S. The 'other' magnet doesn't seem to be as strong - maybe because it doesn't have a cup behind it - so I'll use the 2nd cup+magnet from the kit to rig something past the 5th mag pouch.
