I'd like to replace the chinese mystery wood with a synthetic stock. I'm wondering what options are available, and at what price ranges. It'd be even better if there were any available in the Edmonton area.
Any info or thoughts appreciated.

If you want genuine U.S.G.I., Fred's. http://www.fredsm14stocks.com/

If accuracy matters, and you want the best, McMillan. http://mcmfamily.com/mcmillan/

If traditional is not your preference, or for so-called "tactical" stocks, you'll want to also look at the picatinny rail from Ultimak (a replacement handguard that drops onto conventional stocks) and railed products from Sage and Vltor.

There's some real horror stories out there about dealing with Fred's (actually his dog's name). Some others have been lucky though. There are also export issues with the USGI M14 synthetic stock, of which Fred is COMPLETELY aware. He risks a very hefty fine if he's caught doing it without the paperwork, which costs more than you'll pay for the stock here. You may, or may not get it after sending payment.

That or the JAE-100 stock.

Keep in mind ALL USGI M14 parts require U.S. Export permits to be legally shipped out of the U.S. regardless of value.

This change came about within the last 2 years.

Easier to try to locate a USGI stock that is already in Canada.Check the EE Forum.I have seen quite a few over the last few months.........

Last I heard Fred's will NOT ship to Canada.

Numrich has USGI M14 stocks and will help you with the Export permit thing.

Did Fred's ever really ship to Canada? There is more than a few of us that could argue that point, myself included. I think it must be about 5 years that I have been waiting for my stocks to arrive from Fred's.
