I have a norinco/DA 1911 commander but the barrel in it is shat. Very shallow rifling from the factory. It's not very accurate.
So where do you guys get new barrels? I seen some on brownells, will they ship barrels to Canada? Or is their a Canadian dealer that has any. I can't seem to find a commander barrel :(

Thanks

Wanstalls has only Government barrels on their site as well. Wouldn't hurt to email Dlask or Wanstalls (or others).

Brownells will ship a barrel to Canada but they are 'regulated' under ITAR (no exemption). You would need to have them apply for an export license and pay a 250USD fee for it.......

A couple of things - how old is the gun, how well is it fitted (barrel to slide, link to frame, slide to frame, bushing to barrel) how much time on trigger do you have, and more importantly than sourcing a new barrel, who do you have in mind to fit it? 1911 pattern pistols do not have drop in compatibility, if this is news odds are you don't need a barrel.

I've had it for about a year. Prob 500 rounds through it. The fit on everything seem tight. The reason I think a new barrel would help is the dirtier it gets the more accurate it gets. Like the crud in the barrel gives the bullet somthing to grip and engage the rifling better.

As for installing it I thought they were just drop in maybe a bit of fitting. Any I was looking at are advertised as drop in. I'm not scared of a file.

I'd start by getting a bushing fitted before buying a barrel, it's at least half of the equation and cheaper. When you take the bushing off, if it it spins around with little or no pressure, it's probably too loose. One of the US suppliers (Fusion?) will sell you a bushing that matches the OD of the barrel, that's a good start. The Chinese barrels are generally pretty decent, believe it or not, and the hard chrome on them is second to none for durability.

Ok so the bushing is a little lose on the barrel. I guess I'll try to find a new bushing first.
