Due to itar I find it quite difficult to get anything related to night vision from the states. I also find there's not much from Canadian retailers. Is it possible to import things like firearms or is there another source I'm not aware of?

Your best bet is to get stuff out of Europe, or one of the few retailers in Canada that sells night vision gear. Pretty much anything night vision related is really difficult to get exported from the US.

ActinBlack from Luxembourg is pretty good to deal with and has high quality gear.

I wonder if it will change with the new US export rules.
I remember buying Dark Invader night vision equipment made in Seattle, Washington.
Great product, just had to have Canadian paper work..Reason for that was they wanted
The Crown to know it was coming to Canada. It made the US Government happy

From what I have been able to understand with the new rules it won't change us being able to buy there gen 3 products and equipment sadly. But I hope it does change. I get keeping it out of the other parts of the world, never saw the problem with NATO countries etc having access to it as it would force the company's in Canada to really drop the prices of there's and force them to improve it to keep sales etc.

I guess it depends on what kind of mount your looking for? Dovetail, Bayonet? Or are you looking for a clip on mount for a rifle?

There has been some good reviews on the Cadex dove tail helmet mount.

I got my Bayonet style J-arms from Alpha Optic for about $56 each. Could have been discounted though since I bought a PVS14 from them. They are plastic though compared with the GSCI at $279 a pop.

Wouldn't hurt to get a hold of Alpha Optic. Their customer service has been good with me and I've been bugging the #### out of them asking questions. They don't show much on the website, but may have what your looking for and I've so far found their prices reasonable.

Sorry I just read something that has changed when it comes to ITAR and nvgs. The us can now export gen 2+ tubes etc but the FOM is capped to 1600 and image intensifier must have a photo response of less then 350 ua/im. Which is a higher FOM then previous but we can get that already. The only thing needed now to get them is a us commerce license. This info was found on another forum that is known for its night vision threads. Haven't looked into it yet myself.

The response I got from TNVC in the US when I asked them about a Gen2+ tube:

Any Gen 2 NVG has to have a FOM lower than 1400 or SNR of 16 to be exportable.

Most of Gen 2+ we carry is non-exportable due to the high spec.

You will also need to purchase a NVG housing that is also non exportable.

Ya I'm not sure if the info I was reading is 100% correct or not. With all the restrictions they have it's not worth going about buying things from the USA on this topic. Yes it would be nice but I don't see them raising the limits or giving a free for all for us and allow anything or everything kinda thing.
