I have a BRNO ZH in 7x57r over 12 gauge. I'd like to put a peep sight on it, but I'd like to explore my options on clamping to the 14.5mm dovetail before drilling the gun for a skinner sight.

So far all I've found is that williams & skinner & lyman don't make peeps for that dovetail, tradeex has weaver bases and base/ring combos that would both build the height way too high for my purposes. Brownells has nothing....

I'm new to this european gun thing and am finding it a bit frustrating, any pointers on places worth looking would be appreciated!

You can try Euro Optic or Optics-Trade to see what is out there.
Also, you can find Recknagel or EAW catalogs online if you look hard enough. Those resources should allow you to do a long review into the wild world of euro bases and rings.
I know Calgary Shooting Centre and Italian Guns can get much of what you see.
I have also ordered direct from the CZ Store in Czechoslovakia if they have what I wish.
Also, peep sights for CZ at NewEnglandCustomGun. com
I cannot recall if that rail is 14 or 16mm?
The BRNO / CZ .22 is 11mm; the 527 series is 16mm and the 550 is 19mm.
And they are not weird! It is very rational when you understand it all. An empire built on very specific interchangeable pieces. BRNO/CZ was more rational than most.
