Hello All,

I want to buy an AR in Dark earth but what if I buy a black AR and refinish it? Does anybody know who will do it in the Vancouver/lower mainland area, professionally?

Or does anybody have a tutorial that they can link me?

Or any other recommendation?

Thanks,

Troy

Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply out of Calgary does CeraKote. Probably the toughest "painting" method for firearms, and they have done a great job on all of the ones I've seen.

Personally I would buy one that was done at the factory. If that's not in the budget then pay someone to do it right. A can of Krylon is not going to give you good results unless your rifle is a safe queen as it scratches too easily.
If you take it somewhere then you need to strip the upper and lower receiver completely so you get a good finish yet still have your controls clean.

Here is my Factory FDE PWS Mk112

Alright, thanks. I want a cerakote'd rifle for sure. I definitely want it professionally done because I am so very picky. I am still leaning towards from factory.

Cerakote can be applied thin so another benefit other than durability is that when you reassemble, you won't find that the parts aren't fitting anymore due to the new finish being applied too thickly unlike some conventional spray paints.

Sorry this is off topic but damn that's a nice looking ar! Very jealous! I need to get my rpal ASAP. I keep putting it off.

I painted 3 rifles using krylon flat tan and green...works decent. I used it on my savage axis, and mossberg .22, and my ruger 10/22. They all turned out decent. I used an old lacross stick net as the template at different angles and distances....adds depth and breaks up the outline. I will post a few pics. BTW, my guns get used....A LOT> I see scratches and dings as beauty marks. I want my woods guns to blend in.

If you do it yourself don't bother with the krylon. Get some duracoat from Laurer Weaponry. Thay also have shake and spray kits if you dont have a compressor. If you do a good job of prepping, and allow it to cure for a month it'll be extremly durable. I've done a few guns with it and I've been very happy with it.

Sorry, off topic. Nice rifle. Canada dealer?

Thanks for the compliments.
As soon as I saw it I had to have it.

I bought it second hand. It now has close to 4000 rounds through it and the finish still looks like new.
I think Questar is the only one that sells PWS.
I have since swapped out the Allen Gunworks linear comp for a PWS Triad.

The ACOG was painted with Krylon and I will never use that to paint another firearm part. It is so easy to chip and scuff. Looked great when it was fresh but didn't last at all.

I would contact Dlask Arms in Delta and have him send it out for you. Not sure where he sends it for Cerakote but I bought the MRP upper from him Cerakoted in Tan ( see pic below )

I'm not sure how durable it is since I have not taken the upper out yet

I picked up a Hera Arms factory "Tan" lower to match. The coating that Hera uses peels off super easy . Just assembling the upper caused the coating around pin holes etc to flake off !
