Hello everyone;

I live in the Kitchener area and am looking to get my XCR-L modded to a fluted barrel to save some weight. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get this done and how deep I should make the flutting? (measurements on depth and length)

Any and all help would be appreciated!!!

I don't think it will save that much weight might as well mill the rails some guys have already done this.

Well I also like the look of a flutted barrel xcr. The added benefit of loosing the front end weight is great too. I know I would not want to mill the rails but that would be a great idea too. Do you have any ideas on where I could get this done and how deep I could safely cut into ?

How much of the 3, 6, & 9 accessory rails real estate are you using? Have those milled off and have a keyhole mod done. Not into the keyhole mod, then just add typical mounting screw holes. You could probably have a good amount of new air vents milled out of the front handguard area without losing any structural integrity.

Are you using the full upper monolithic rail? Mill off what's not being used, add vent holes to the top.

For the record I haven't done any of this, just spitballing some ideas. As always listen to the advise of your gunsmith.

I Don't like the look of it with the rails milled off but it is an option. All of the above aren't worth the actual weight savings, it doesn't amount to much.

Barrel manufacturers recommend not fluting, it can literally destroy the accuracy if there is a#defect. I can't remember which mfr it was but they advised going to a lighter contour rather than fluting. Fluting does not remove much weight and the reduction in stiffness is the same as going to a lighter contour, which removes more weight than fluting. If its just the looks you mainly want then I can't help in that respect. Just thought I'd ad this bit for you to consider. Also, RA sells a light contour barrel that's reportedly a very noticeable reduction in weight.
