Where to hunt Gophers in AB?

It is hard to tell. I think badger tho. I would love it if we have raccoons around. We basically have none.

Be thankful you don’t.

They are infinitely, incredibly destructive and a pain to rout out without traps. They moved into a family property a few years back and it was constant problems.

Side note: anyone have a source for eley subsonic HP? Shot up the rest of my stash on gophers over the weekend with my anschutz. It really likes them. Got a little over 100 in one field.

Farmer is trying not to poison. Between him, sons and I we’ve accounted for a rough count of 400 or so.

Firearm outlet had some last time I looked. And as a trapper also racoons are more fur to make money from, but I know they are big problems

My father returned a gun I let him borrow 15 years ago. It’s a handi rifle in 22 hornet and it has a matching 20 gauge barrel. I got the gun swapped the barrel to the 20 gauge walked in the house grabbed 2 shells and walked over by the barn and shot this guy. All that happened in about 5 minutes! IMG_5387.jpeg

a 13-Line Ground Squirrel, I haven't seen those for a while.

If there are land owners who need help with pest control over long distances, please send me a PM or email mysticprecision@gmail.com

Thanks

Initially we started shooting on one ranch through friends. Eventually through word of mouth we picked up more places. I even posted in a couple groups on Facebook called "Alberta Ranchers" and "Alberta Farmers" and made some contacts.
I found as the owners got to know us they trusted us more and let us know about more areas to shoot. We treat their land with respect. We also brings gifts to show our thanks. One farmer wouldn't take anything from us. After shooting on his property for 2 years he mentioned his son shoots a lot of .223 and reloads. I have access to a lot of once fired brass and he was happy when I gave him a bunch. We have brought beer, chocolates, and even wine for the wives.

Our current group is pretty large and we have enough land to use to keep us occupied with lots of gophers for a solid week of shooting but we are still looking for more places to shoot.

Good luck! It's a lot of fun. I have learned a lot about shooting with wind, from a tripod, and moving targets in the past 4 years. Bring more ammunition than you think you will need. I bring about 2500 rounds of .223 and several thousand rounds of .22LR.
