Hey Guys,

Been looking at alot of handgun case suppliers, mostly in the States. Looking preferably for a locking metal carrying case for a SW617 & 686 for back & forth to the range. Would rather shop CAD if I can. Thanks.

I was never able to find any metal pistol cases in Canada except the very expensive 250+ ones that I saw at a gun show. I bought a metal range case from a place in the states and a pistol case direct from Smith & Wesson. They were less than $100 but the quality/fit & finish was not very good. I guess you get what you pay for.

Camera Shops. They usually carry the high end cases such as pelican or storm, but they also will carry the mid range cases. Thing about camera cases, thy are designed to protect very expensive electronics, which are like glass compared to most handguns, so they should have no problem protecting your toys.

that's waht i have used for years- some are even double sided so you can double the amout of guns and periferals you can carry- and best of all THEY LOCK- and it's pick foam, so you can tune the pillows to the shape of your gun

I too use a pelican case, I paid about $175 after taxes, I bought it at a camera store. The best part is the "pick foam" I have room in mine for 5 pistols and a couple of mags for each...... I think I shoulda paid the extra $100 and got the one that I can put 2 levels of guns in...... but this one is doing the trick for now. I also cheaped out and got the model with out a built in lock so I use pad locks to lock the case.

Cheers

I just put a bid on one on ebay, located in Canada and is the dual side (2 pistols is better than one!). Starting bid was $34.00 here's the link.

Thanks guys, good idea to check the camera shops.

tell the clerk ( if there is one) you want to "protect" some telephoto lenses-if you have longer barreled pistols- ie measure the overall length of the pistol you want to transport and add a few inches on either end so it doesn't abraid on the sides of the case- locks and shoulder strap are also nice to have- i shove mine inside of a cheap walmart ruc to conceal the identity in case there are camera theives about

+1....Pelican cases protect all my camera gear, and work well for handguns.

Heck don't be shy tell the guy @ the camera shop you are putting pistols in the case you are looking to buy...... I did!

Surprise surprise the guy at the camera shop said "Thats a great idea... I've been selling these cases for years and I never thought to put my pistols in one"

We really are everywhere.........

I just had a look on ebay and there are new and used Pelican cases as well as others. great idea and I keep forgetting about ebay. You can even buy the Pick N Pluck foam separately.

I have used a briefcase to carry pistols. Very handy when US border guards send you in for secondary - no need to carry the entire range bag.

X2 on the briefcase or computer case.....Usually found used at a garage sale or Value Village.
I bought a nice leather one with dual combo locks last week for $10 at Value Village.

Tiger Direct (based out of Toronto) had the best prices for Pelican cases a few months ago when I was looking for cases for my camera gear. The Pelican 1510 makes an awesome pistol case.

Reliable Gun (Vancouver) has metal pistol cases that are reasonable priced I'm not sure of the quality as I did not fiddle with them much but I think they are about $60.

Most of my camera cases from Pelican become gun cases later in life....As the bodies/lenses change sometimes the cases need to as well...
I still have my first handgun "case"....a Metal Toolbox...which I stencilled "BIOHAZARD" and "SEWAGE TESTING KIT" on the sides.
When asked about it...I simply replied..."Keeps people from knowing".
I am not about to cover my camera case with Canon PRO series decals, that is just free advertising to them and a big sign to any would be thief that says "Take me!"
