I'm gonna put it here cause I know you guys will appreciate it. It is not restricted so it's not a hand gun but #### man it's cool. Just got it this afternoon from whole sale sports in Calgary. Henry big boy mares leg.45 colt (my fav round). They just got a shipment in. So go get one! I have handled the Rossi. IMHO the Henry is way better made. It's $300 bucks more but if you want a really fine gun it's at least 300 better. I am gonna shoot the be jesus out of it this week end. Frigging big heavy octagonal barrel ###y brass receiver and bits. Beautiful piece of wood. Fit and finish are perfect. Nice heavy leaver. I really liked the Rossi but glad I got the Henry.
Moderator please move this to the appropriate place (I couldn't figure it out)

This might work for your proof. Lol the 20 is to show size.

Henry website shows the 45 and 22 OAL as 25", I thought under 26 was a no go and was not a non restricted anymore under 26"'

Never mind, found the answer.

Are they really good for anything other than looking cool?
I'm not criticizing them at all, just asking...Would the .44 be good for camp/bear defense, or would it be too hard to aim and/or manage recoil?
I do love that they're unrestricted (and will hopefully stay that way)

Good question. I can see hands-free bear defence with a scabbard. The 22LR solves the Rabbit Defence enigma.
I'm wondering if there is a technique for firing them accurately? Butt on the biceps maybe?
The people shooing them on youtube don't look cool at all, I'm afraid. Area fire in a cowboy hat. I would be embarrassed.

Monkey. I guess it's what your looking for. I wanted a cut down 1894 marlin. I lobe the weight finish and feel. The Rossi just felt light and un finished to me.
Muster who cares if there is a point. I mean really what are you gonna do with your glock or sig against a bear. I would guess a whole lot less since you can't carry one. Just my thoughts.

a huge disadvantage for the marlin is it is made out of brass ......... meaning only low power 45 colt loads ...... 44 mag pressure levels shouldn't even be considered .

the rossi's reciever is also chambered in 44 mag and 454 casull in the full size version ......... this leaves alot of room if one wants to load the 45 colt round hotter .

marlin and puma ( ie chiappa ) have both priced themselves out of the market for these rifles . they are both very close to double the price of the rossi version , and are over double in price to the full size rifle version they are based on .

the real winner will be the company that finally chambers their rifles in 460 S&W

Shot a mares's leg a few weeks ago. They're really hard to shoot accurately, 2-handed at waist level is the most comfortable but accuracy sucks. It was fun to play with but not much good for anything that I could see. I don't really see the attraction but I guess "fun" is as good a reason as any.

I think you have to create a new forum for the Mare's Leg.

It doesn't fit properly in any other forum, and the forum nazis will spank you severely if you talk it up in the wrong place.

;)

That's a good idea, you could call it the Mall Ninja forum. :p

Mall Ninjas would never carry a Mare's Leg - It isn't black, and penetration is limited if you are trying to apprehend dangeropus shoplifters, armoured with ceramic plates. Not enough firepower, neither.

A barret .50BMG with a bandolier of ten spare magazines is the only way to go, really.

The .44 Rossi's not to hard to handle.
Click the images for video....

Hit chest sized plate at 100, then at 50 then a can at about 25 yards...

Hit can at around 25 yards, missed can at 25, hit plate at 100
