Where to put the red dot.

Where's the best place to put a red dot sight? Is it better to have it closer to the rear or as far forward as possible?

And by up I mean forward. Give it a try. You'll find it's easier to shoulder quickly and get a good bead if the dot is a bit further down.

Whatever you like, I have one on my 10/22 mounted on the receiver and one on my Baikal pellet gun mounted on the bbl (scout style) I prefer a receiver mount personally.

It seems the closer to the shooter's eye the RD is mounted the greater the appearance that the dot is bouncing around.

I found I had to experiment to find the optimum spot where, with both eyes open, I had a clear stable dot- with a good sight picture- on the target.

I don't know of any way to find the sweet spot other than trial and error.
