I [now] see the closure on the website. I agree with some of the above posts - the range is a dump. Last year I showed up on the Saturday before the rifle season opener for a final go-through, and they were rebuilding the target stands from 200m to 700m. The range was packed and they shut it down, with no advance notice. I did end up volunteering instead that day, but the entire situation was a joke. Happened to me last year as well on a weekday, with no advance notice. Also, good things I shoot more prone these days, as the benches at the 200m-700m are wobbly aborations. I have renewed my 2011 membership, but this will be my last year if CHAS doesn't have things fixed up and fully operational before spring.

Sorry for your inconvenience.
The CHAS is not a business, it is a volunteer based club where everyone is equally responsible & enjoys the same priviledges of the Genesee facility.
Yes there was advance notice of the maintenance... If you had been aware of the clean-up and work party, (according to your posting) you wouldn't have been there.
Nothing I posted is untrue. I did not receive notifcation. Not sure what else to say. And driving 2 hours round trip and not being able to shoot is an inconvenience. Like I said, I'd like to volunteer and help out, but I am getting a sour taste in my mouth.
Pretty big finger pointing around there, any proof to back this up?
We have never received any offer to provide a quote for the required work, although I do often hear (second hand of course) about someone's, buddy, neighbor, friend, coworker, cousin, brother, etc, who has supposedly approached the CHAS Board in some unsubstantiated manner to offer said services to CHAS.
Sorry you're dissatisfied with the gun show. I'd love to attend the one you organize & run each year. I'm sure I could get some valuable pointers from the experience. Maybe CHAS could hire you under contract to organize & run our annual gunshow for us in a manner more to you liking?
Thank you for your support & good will toward the club.
Amen Buddy ..

It is nice to see all this response to the need for a central Alberta LR range. To be honest, the range always suited my purpose and the community is stellar, it would just be nice if it was run a little more professionally. ie: range clean up days posted, range closure days posted, range updates posted, and other pertinent info should be easier to find.
I am not a member of the range executive but still managed to receive the monthly news email that stated the dates of the clean-up and range closures. Despite having being a range member for 2 years and having never attended a club meeting due to work and other commitments I don't feel left out.
I read the emails and the events forum on this site as it is usually posted here as well.
Yes I want the long range point opened too, but it is not some secret as to why it is closed for now (the govt).
Regarding the target benches, "unknown parties" cut them from their bolts and did not reinstall them (coincidentally) before a certain "long range" shooting competition last spring.
The problem is the guys running chas are collectors not shooters and they will tell u that and there is nothing wrong with that.
