Where to shoot a 50 BMG near Calgary

Guys, me again with one more question please....

While I was looking for the right 338 Lapua for myself, I started getting tempted by a few guys on here who also own 50 BMG's. I also made a fatal mistake looking at Rick of ATRS's Nemesis 50 - man that thing looks awesome, albeit too much money for me for a "kick" :)

PGW has a 50 BMG in a Cadex chassis, which looks incredible, and not that much more money that a decent 338....

My question is this - having only arrived in Canada a little over 2 months ago, and knowing NOBODY with land, where around CALGARY or vicinity can I go and shoot a 50 BMG? I have seen that pretty much NO ranges around allow 50 BMGs.

I have sent emails to some ranges to find out about shooting my hunting rifles, and NONE made the effort to answer my emails....

Does anyone on here have a place (privately owned) that would allow me to go and shoot a 50 from time to time? If I can find such a place, then I'm definitely buying a 50. It's just that I know almost nobody in Canada, let alone in or near Calgary, and let alone someone with land where I can go and shoot....

THIS is the very problem with the 50s, a TOTAL lacking of ranges that are either templated or will allow 1.
IIRC there are 4 ranges in the province that are 50 friendly.
Fort Mac, Gennossee just outside Edmonton, Wardlow and Wainwright. The closest of which is 3 hours away.
Shooting on private land can have its issues as the land owner then can be held potentially liable for any mishaps.
There is plenty of crown land within a couple hours drive, but again 1 can be taking a chance that someone else is using that area for an unrelated purpose.


As much as I am not into government intervention, the province really needs to start thinking about helping to get more ranges open, "in the interest of public safety"
 
Thanks Rick - yeah, pretty much what you told me in the shop. It's a real pity though how things work out.

That Nemesis of yours keeps me awake at night. Why did you EVER show me that beast??? Hehehe :)

Maybe someone on here owns a large tract of land, and invites us to shoot on it if we behave!!! :):)

Best solution is quit your job and move to where the real work is.......I can count on 1 hand the number of times there has been someone on the 1000 m bench here. Plus, its 20 minutes from home to range.
 
There are some huge clear cuts west of Calgary but you will have to hike in a bit usually and making sure that you are safe down range might be an issue.

Ive never seen someone on the 1000m Bench, im sure there must be someone in town with a 50bmg.
