Where to start...

I am thinking about building a Ruger 10/22 and what I would like to know is where should I start? Is there a complete base model I should buy and go from there or is it better just to build it from the ground up? I own a number of firearms, but have never 'built' one beyond adding optics.

If you're anything like me you'll start with a stock 10/22 and end up replacing everything on / in it (some parts more than once). I'd suggest taking a little time, figure out exactly what you want to put together and sourcing the parts as your budget permits. In my case I probably had 2 grand into parts, ended up with 2 guns and flogged them both for a $300 cil/anni that is far more accurate.
