Hello all!
I'm new to the site, having just found it earlier today. I have alot of questions, but before that, let me tell you a little about my self and why I'm here. I have a little bit of a military background, and am currently a reservist (navy). Last time I went out for a weapons requalification, I had a blast. Unfortunately, we are only required to requalify every 2 years and it only takes about 70 rounds to do it. Not quite enough for me. (Incidentally, I think my shooting skills leave alot to be desired - and my scores agree with me)
Anyhow, I have my restricted firearms license, and after visiting a few sites I thought it would be a fun winter project to build myself an AR-15 type rifle. This will be my first restricted firearm. I think that about sums it up. Here's my first round of questions, and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
1) I stoped by a retailer in Calgary and asked about prices and availability for AR15 parts. They're sold out and don't know when they're getting more. Can anyone suggest places in Canada (Alberta preferably) to buy parts like the lower receiver?
2) Is an authorisation to transport required to get a restricted firearm from the store to home right after you buy it? Should I already be a member of a club before I buy to make life easier?
3) What is required (fees, participation, etc) to join the Canadian Service Rifle Club? Does this automatically give me a membership in the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association and the DCRA? Who do I need to talk to?
Thanks in advance for all of your help!
