Hello all!

I'm new to the site, having just found it earlier today. I have alot of questions, but before that, let me tell you a little about my self and why I'm here. I have a little bit of a military background, and am currently a reservist (navy). Last time I went out for a weapons requalification, I had a blast. Unfortunately, we are only required to requalify every 2 years and it only takes about 70 rounds to do it. Not quite enough for me. (Incidentally, I think my shooting skills leave alot to be desired - and my scores agree with me)

Anyhow, I have my restricted firearms license, and after visiting a few sites I thought it would be a fun winter project to build myself an AR-15 type rifle. This will be my first restricted firearm. I think that about sums it up. Here's my first round of questions, and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

1) I stoped by a retailer in Calgary and asked about prices and availability for AR15 parts. They're sold out and don't know when they're getting more. Can anyone suggest places in Canada (Alberta preferably) to buy parts like the lower receiver?

2) Is an authorisation to transport required to get a restricted firearm from the store to home right after you buy it? Should I already be a member of a club before I buy to make life easier?

3) What is required (fees, participation, etc) to join the Canadian Service Rifle Club? Does this automatically give me a membership in the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association and the DCRA? Who do I need to talk to?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Answers to my own questions - just in case anyone else out there is curious.

1) There is another post in this forum with the appropriate answers. Stumbled across it late last night.

2) There is apparently a temporary Authorization to transport (ATT) issued at the time of purchase. No word yet on the club membership front, but I'm going to assume it will make life alot easier.

3) Found the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association web page at http://www.dcra.ca and found the http://www.albertarifle.com site from there and then the Canadian Service Rifle Association's contact info from there ( http://www.albertarifle.com/csra.htm ). Emailed the guy earlier today about pricing and whatnot, hoping for a reply soon.

I'm slowly getting there. Yay! 8)

pm 'Savage' on the board here -he is the president of the CSRA - He'll set you straight on shooting service rifle in the Calgary area...

First of all, welcome to this board. I'm sure you're going to like visiting here

If you are building an AR15, you can start right here. There are quite a few AR15 components for sale on this board. If you need to buy some parts from a dealer, I found that Wolverine http://www3.mb.sympatico.ca/~jhipwell/ is excellent to deal with. They are in Manitoba, but will ship all over the country. If they don't have a particular part in stock, they will order it for you. This may take a couple months or so because they won't import from the US just for you and have to wait until they can make a decent purchase. Trying to import yourself is possible, but the import paperwork will be substantial and a PITA, not to speak of all the hassles with Canada Customs.

Good luck with your project :D

Thanks for the information. Coincidentally, I just got a reply from the guy I emailed with a ton of information. The fees sound very reasonable after asking a couple places in town.

Great, thanks! I've been reading through their pricelist, and so far I'm really impressed.

Looks like everything is comming together.

Visit my website, (click the www button below) and download my shooting book.

There's a link on the left side, it'll pull a .zip file for you, about 2 MB. Have a read, and let us know if there's anything there to help.

(bunch of target replicas, match cards, and shooting stuff there.)

TPB wants and AR

Hey TPB,check out P&D enterprises in Edmonton they have lots of AR type rifles complete and lowers, uppers etc. It's a smart move to pick up an AR and practice shows you have some drive and take your shooting serious.I personally hate ARs but your the one in the CF.I'd get 16" barreled carbine I think the future of ARs in the army will be 16" carbines.I'd also recomment a flat top but use iron sights as much as possible. If you can get a small grouping with iron sights at 300m it will be easy with a full sized c7 with a scope.

HEY........SEND ME THE SITE INFO PLEASE OK??
THANKS ...........WWW ???
