Are there not many elk hunters on CGN?? I see lots of pics of guys with deer and coyotes, the odd moose but hardly ever see elk.
How many of you guys in B.C and Alberta hunt elk and have you taken any nice bulls this year?

Cheers!!

I shot this 6X7 near Fort St John last Sept with my 9.3X62

I shot a 5X6 elk on Thanksgiving Monday last month, but unfortunately didn't have a camera at the time. I took the antlers to a taxidermist before getting any pictures of him and we had to quarter him on the mountain to haul him out. He wasn't huge, but should look good on my wall. Tasty though... elk meat is my favourite.

Hmmmm...did you notice anything? I seem to be lowering the bar every year. Gonna have to do something about that. :D

I would like to add this if I may, without detering too far from the intention of this thread. Most of us "fanatic" elk hunters will often only take pictures of the bulls that we take, the bigger the better. This should not deter us from a healthy respect for the cow elk. Those cows serve as guardians for the big bulls. Often, I have seen a herd of cows surround the bull to shield and protect their "sugar daddies". Anyone who knows anything about it understands that the cows make the best steaks and roast. So, I encourage those of you that have cow pictures, to proudly display them...you all had to work just as hard at the end of the day :D

Here is my first elk. I got him this fall on the second day of the season. This was an LEH West Kootenays bull. I took him with a .270 using 130 TSX's.. Worked like a charm.

I'm heading South for Elk tomorrow. Those Manitoba's posted over on AO are staggering! I'm probably looking at another 5 years before I can put in for that draw.

Tried to do so today. Got a draw for cow elk in 318. No luck. A few tracks and turds but no animals. One more weekend left.
