Where's all the Elk hunters?

Yes, I called him in A-zone. Located him on day 10 of the hunt with a carlton spike call, he came in to the hoochie mamma 1 1/2 hours and many miles later. He just about wore me out before finally coming in.

Ain't that elk hunting though?

snuck up on a 5 point this year, watched him for 3 hours, they gotta be 6 around here though. had a cow tag, held out for a bull until it was too late.

thinking of trying with a bow next year, the bow season is for any elk.

here's mine from last year:

Elk are at the top of my list also. Usually I like to get an Elk down first in the season, if possible....the rest is just icing on the cake! Elk is the best to eat also. Appreciated the comment from the poster that spoke about cow elk. Yummy, for sure! And wary at all times. After shooting many of these tasty cervids, I have gained nothing but respect for them. Majestic, smart, and great eating! Regards, Eagleye.

I agree that elk meat is as good as it gets. A 2-3 year old cow is better than any beef I've ever tasted and I grew up on a farm raising beef cattle. Even the bigger bulls taste good and from my experience don't get as tough as large moose.

here's my cow from October this year, decided to try the draw instead of shooting a bull in the regular season this year. Elk populaitons are doing VERY well in SK, I've killed 9 in the last 10 years.

I have trouble posting pics, but I did harvest a Vancouver Island LEH cow October 1.

Second Vancouver Island elk draw for me.
