I'm talking about 7.62x39. All I can find for Sale these days is Corrosive Surplus Ball czech made. What happened to all the Norinco non corrosive that I used to see piled feet high in lever arms?

Will there be anymore Norinco non-corrosive coming into Canada? Or are we going to have to deal with All this other stuff first?

Although I just came to a Relization that I could probably buy american factory ammo UMC or something from Wholesale at a slightly higher price..

but still the point remains.

I would advise against using UMC ammo in a SKS, Remington primers are much softer than military primers, and they sometimes go off with only a hit from the bolt (aka slamfire). I used to fire UMC in my sks, and many times it emptied the whole magazine in full auto (aka 5 slamfires in a row), rewarding me with horrified looks from other shooters and the range officer.

But the question remains, where's the Norinco stuff? I wasn't all that good, but at least you could clean your rifle the next day.

Post got moved, took me a minute to find it.

Slam fires don't sound like something I want to be part of. Well as long as I clean my Gun right afterwards then it shouldn't be a problem. Still would be nice to have that corrosive issue out of the way.

maybe Winchester or Federal make a viable alternative?

the US makers are going full bore on supplying their armed forces. i doubt they would even bother squeezing out a run or two of 7.62x39 when US has tons of clean Wolf ammo.

Now that I think of it, my experience of "double taps" with my SKS was with US factory ammo rather than the "cheap" Norinco or corrosive Czech stuff...

I don't have the article in front of me now, but I read recently in the CSSA newsletter, that the US is buying ALL the 5.56mm that the factories can make, so none for civilian market, and they also have banned the export of any 7.62x39mm as they don't want any showing up in Iraq. I guess it hurts more to be shot by your own product.

Arn't there any Canadian Ammo Makers? Why Can't we make the stuff ourselfs? We're a 1st world Nation i'm assuming we have the Industrial Capabilities to make Ammo and sell it to other Nations as well as ourselfs. We used to be Good Arm's Makers what happened? (bet i know the Answer)

I just feel that we shouldn't be Scrambling for Surplus ammo from the 70's/80's We should have a nice selection to choose from.

Indeed sir, you would assume that Being a 1st world Nation we could Have some Modern Military grade Ammo for our Firearms, instead of Surplus stuff.

Still i'll begrudgingly getting a crate of surplus for my rifle, got to take what you can get. But I expect to see some Clean new ammo coming into the country for crying out loud.

Can Am , perhaps you can shed some light on the Norinco situation .
Is it a government problem . i.e. " red tape "
or did the eastern block suppliers dump the price so low there is no way you can make a buck selling the chinese stuff ?
When do you figure we will run out of eastern block ammo in Canada ?
How much of a premium would we be paying for norinco ?
Thanks . :)

That got me thinking about the various different ammo makers worldwide. Take a look at this list, by no means complete, I'm sure. If all these countries can set up and market their product, why can't we?
I suspect a lot has to do with living next to the USA. It is (or was) much easier to import, than to produce. However, with all the import crap going on now, maybe we should rethink that strategy.

UK--Eley and Kynoch
Italy--Fiocchi (also US factory)
Germany--Dynamit Nobel RWS
Korea--PMC (also US factory)
South Africa--PMP
Austria--Hirtenberger
Mexico--Aquilla
Finland--Lapua
Sweden-- Norma
Czech Rep.--Sellier & Bellot

not sure if Gevelot from France is still alive, and I couldn't find a link for Betram Brass of Australia. But you get the idea. We are lazy. We damn well should have our own ammo industry.

It would Definitly instill some pride Buying Canadian Made ammo, to shoot in Canada. I though Canada had a really good War Manufacturing Machine there. We Sold over 3-4 Billion Dollars of Munitions to the States for Vietnam. Maybe the Government got a bent nose over that from the anti-whatever people and stopped.

I remember someone on the board taking pictures of the old Inglis Weapons Plant that were all shut down. i think Inglis now only makes Washing Machines etc.
