We get the same thing here during deer season. More so than for moose or elk.
Something about deer just seems to turn some usually "normal" people into lawless poachers that show absolutely no respect for wildlife, other people's properties or the law.
The penalties need to be tougher on these individuals!

It doesn't help that in BC, you are lucky if a CO will come to a call by the time your week long trip has ended. Never going to catch anyone in the act if they are days away every time they get a call. Only thing they are consistent with are their highway checkpoints, but they are always in the same locations every year like clockwork

That’s the truth, last year I found a large amount of dumped deer carcasses in nov along the edge of an fsr main. A mix of does and bucks, after doe season had closed. Dumped in an odd manner, I took photos and called the CO to make a report. You know what response I got? “We’re guessing it was just hunters, if you hear anything to the contrary locally please call us back. We won’t be coming out to look into it nor do we need to see your pictures, have a good day.” Will be the last time I call the CO’s I can tell you that.

We actually see a fair number of CO's here every deer season because of the poaching and trespassing issues. They bring in extras from other parts of the province in November to help deal with the problem.
Just too much area for them to cover effectively. Usually run into 2 or 3 each season and get checked.
On the one large farm, and the couple other neighbouring farms we had permission on for several years, we found at least 2 or 3 poached deer every year. Most of the time we would leave after dark and arrive again before daylight to find strange vehicle tracks in the fields and dead deer; most often shot and left. Many time you could tell that they shot at animals in the headlights, drive up and if they cannot see the animal from the truck, just leave. A couple of times, they would actually walk up to the animal and find out that it wasn't legal and then would leave. We would report them and most of the time we would meet up with the CO's when they would show up. We even started doing night patrols with the farmers, but never caught anyone. Did actually chase a truck out of fields in the middle of the night once, but could not catch up to them (too big a head start). Saw the CO's a couple of times doing midnight patrols.
Surprising how many times I would be out hunting with the farmer or landowner and run into other hunters on the private land, and if we did get to talk to them, they would always say that they had permission to be there. And would then argue with the farmer or landowner even after being informed that the farmer or landowner had not granted anyone else permission to hunt there. Most of them could not say who the permission was granted to them by. And of course, none of them had written permission.

What is the purpose of shooting a bunch of does and bucks, then transporting them to a dump site!? It literally makes no sense, what is the potential gain?

I know we have a problem in this country with Asain poachers, maybe it is cultural but that is besides the point. I recall last year some ol asain dude shot a cow moose and a black bear and left them to rot, the COs managed to catch up with him and take his rifles and truck, so he went out and bought another rifle and a truck (gotta love that foreign money!) And went right back to killin sh*t.

He ended up in court where he pleaded it wasn't fair he was getting a 10 year hunting ban, as he'd be too old to hunt at the end of that sentence.

Here is a link... sorry it's the communist broadcasting corporation

It would be fun if we could hunt poachers.

There is an area close to me that has more poachers per square km than anywhere else in Atlantic Canada, and that's saying something. It's well-known. All you have to do is sit there with a ticket book and you'd be more busy than a one-legged man at a stepdancing contest.

I chatted with the COs about it this year. The reply was the usual. "Wah wah wah we're too busy wah wah wah." Too busy doing what? Driving around doing nothing, far as I can tell, because I never hear of tickets actually being issued. If you really are as understaffed as you say (and they are), then wouldn't it make the most sense to hand out the most tickets possible, instead of driving around in circles in the woods?

Have you ever checked the Court Dockets for information, wah wah wah......
WL, slobs are slobs and there is little one can do about it.
They will continue to be slobs even after they have been caught, its all about the upbringing.
In time of need taking an animal to feed ones family is one thing, but for a set of antlers it is another.
Thrill killing is a sign of something more nefarious.

perhaps here needs to bring in more of a process to getting A- firearm license and B- a 'game license' - which is effectivly an over the counter ticket for the calendar year.

if costs were maybe a bit higher it would dwindle out more legit hunters as its another cash grab-
but likewise to your PAL ? system? the hunter competency type test that should be mandatory here.

how this for stink
