An acquaintance of mine brought a Whetherby PA-08 pump action shotgun to me saying its broken. It was jammed solid on ejection. Gun is new. He fired 6 or 7 shells out of it.; Taking the barrel off was near impossible. Once i took it off turned out that clip holding the operating rods to the tube has popped off and locked the gun. He has shot it only one time and has had it for about 4 mos. I suggested to him to get his cash back and get an 870 which is simpler in design. One piece operating instead of three cause i knew this problem will return. He decided to give it another chance... last weekend he came back with spent shell still partially in the chamber. Lucky is was not loaded one. In this form i told him to take it to the store.
I am disappointed in this gun as it appeared to be decent quality and smooth action. I would not recommend it. Is it a common problem/ or is it just this particular gun?

SA-08 Safety Notice

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

WEATHERBY® SA-08 SEMI-AUTOMATIC SHOTGUN

Weatherby, Inc. of Paso Robles, California, is performing a safety upgrade on a limited number of Weatherby® SA-08 model semi-automatic shotguns manufactured and sold by Weatherby, Inc., between June 1, 2010 and February 28, 2011. The affected shotguns bear serial numbers on the receiver within the following series: AD06825 - AD13793 (inclusive). The safety upgrade will replace the trigger/firing assembly of the affected shotgun, and prevent a potential accidental discharge, which could occur if certain parts were to become loose. Accidental discharge of any firearm can result in severe injury or property damage if the muzzle of the firearm is pointed in an unsafe direction at the time of accidental discharge.

WARNING: If you own a Weatherby® SA-08 model semi-automatic shotgun with a serial number within any of the serial number series referred to above, USE OF YOUR SHOTGUN MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE AND SEVERE INJURY. STOP USING YOUR SHOTGUN IMMEDIATELY and call Weatherby at 1-800-227-2016 OR 805-227-2600 to receive instructions on how to return the shotgun’s trigger/firing assembly for the safety upgrade. Upon receipt of your trigger/firing assembly, a replacement assembly will be sent to you.

NO OTHER WEATHERBY® SHOTGUNS ARE AFFECTED BY THIS SAFETY NOTICE. CHECK YOUR SERIAL NUMBER.

The affected shotguns were originally sold through licensed wholesale distributors and gun dealers nationwide, and some of them may have been resold by the original owners through retail gun dealers, trade shows or privately. If you have sold, traded or given away an affected Weatherby® SA-08 model semi-automatic shotgun, it is important for you to forward this Safety Notice to the current owner.

Weatherby apologizes for any inconvenience to its customers resulting from this safety upgrade program, but it is important that owners of affected shotguns take advantage of this free upgrade program and do not use an affected shotgun before it has been upgraded. All work will be done at the factory at no charge. Please do not return your Weatherby® SA-08 shotgun to the factory before contacting us for return instructions.

I've easily put 400 rounds through my PA without any issues. I'd lean toward it being that particular gun. The SA on the other hand has had it's share of issues. The posted recall notice and it seems to be quite picky with spitting out what you feed it.

I owned a PA-08 for a short amount of time.

The spent shells kept hanging up in the chamber - Weatherby had a tolerance issue with a bunch of PA-08's as well

I returned it to weatherby and they took FOREVER to return it. I Ended up buying a BPS instead - havent had any problems

Where did you find this information?

I had my 870 jam multiple times on low brass ammo or no brass ammo. This happens a lot in fact with non-brass ammo because the metal they use there expands but does not contract as quickly as brass does. So my Remington jammed probably more than your Weatherby :)

Also, what shells you were using in it? Hope you didn't put in 3.5" shells in a 3" chamber, which could cause a jam as well or sometimes worse consequences :)

I had a PA-08 that functioned fine for the small amount of shots I put through it, but the wooden stock developed a crack at the wrist after the first box of shells. The stock bolt seemed to be over tightened from the factory.

Buying a 870 express& a mossberg maybe a Stevens is a good idea then you could have a collection of junk Browning BPS or Remington wingmaster are the 2 best pumps Benilli nova"s are allwright if you like the feel

It is not a case of bad shells. Its a a clip that secures the op rods to the tube under the grip. It comes off and causes jamming the rods in the receiver on a strange angle upon ejection. barrel gets hard/impossible to remove and rods as well stuck making it extremely hard to rectify the issue without using tools that can scratch the gun.
info on SA was just something i posted for curiosity reasons as to help if anyone could use it.
