Which 10/22 Barrel?

Necro thread revival. Finally got a barrel that I am very happy with. I never did find a Kidd lightweight barrel. I did however find a Kidd Ultralight barrel. I am still a little confused with the difference. It seems that the ULW has a little less steel in the barrel. They are both the same contour. The way the muzzle is threaded and crowned is beautiful. The crown is recessed about 3/4 of an inch.

Getting a Kidd barrel to fit into a Dlask receiver was a PITA though. I tried not to sand anything down but theres not way they will fit. I got the barrel stuck halfway on the receiver twice. On the last try I had the receiver in the oven at 200F, the barrel in the freezer, and a piece of a 4x4 to be beat the tar out of it. I was pretty relieved when it just barely went in. I don't think I would have gotten it apart the last time. Needless to say its a tight fit. Also I lucked out with getting the extractor to line up. Must have been a quality 4x4 I was using.

Here she is:

Preliminary accuracy tests are very promising. Some quarter sized groups with cheap ammo. Need to get a little more serious in testing it.Theres a marked improvement in accuracy though. The scope is a Vortex Diamondback 2-7 rimfire and it is definitely the weak link now. The crosshairs cover a good quarter inch and the parallax is horrendous.

Hey, she looks good!

I just got my Dlask receiver and I am in the process of ordering a barrel from Brownells. Good to know about the fit. I love the quality of the Dlask receiver.

Wow some of the early comments in this thread are not very nice.

Anyway, I recently added a Green Mountain barrel to my 10/22. I got the fluted 0.92 bull barrel, 16" and I really like it. It also has a bentz chamber. Accuracy is good, definitely capable of under 1" at 50 yd with CCI Minimags, have not tried match ammo yet.

The price is the best part - I paid $165 plus tax and shipping (2015 price). Bought it from a small outfit in Vancouver called Bits of Pieces (http://www.bitsofpieces.com/). Give the guy a call, he's very helpful and knowledgeable.

*edit* To install the barrel, I had to heat the receiver and cool the barrel and it slid right into place. You have to be very quick because as soon as the barrel touches the receiver you have maybe 1 second before the aluminium receiver shrinks giving you a very snug fit.

As you may already know - the factory Ruger 10/22 scope rail is garbage. My scope slides around under recoil (very slowly - you don't notice until you've shot 500 rounds and the scope is 1/2" further forward on the rail). I bought a Dlask Arms rail for $35+ shipping and it is WAY better. It makes a world of difference and well worth the money.

I have a heavy fluted VQ barrel on my 10-22. It is far more accurate than the factory tube! It is funny (not Ha-Ha funny) how people that do not know you can call you incompetent or a plain liar. Anyway the HB is still to heavy to be a walk around gun. I also worked on the trigger to bring the pull down. I later added a VQ trigger that was at a "can't pass price" and it was even better. You have made the gun to your liking and that is all that counts. Have fun.
