Which .17 hmr/scope ?

I shoot this Savage .17
My scope is not under your $300.00 limit but I have another on my CZ .22varmint that would fit your needs perfectly, although not for sale.
A Bushnell Trophy 6-18X is $269.95 new and is one heck of a scope for that price IMHO.
Recently at the Brandon Gun Show I saw the fellows looking over the new BSA sweet .17 scopes. Apparrently the bullet drop is built right in and you just turn the distance dial and bang, dead gopher every time with no holdover.
Don't know if it works but it sounds interesting, just might try it someday.

17 HMR and Scope
Good day. I shoot the same Savage as Taffman and love this gun. It is very accurate and the thumbhole stock is very comfortable to hold.
As far as a scope, I recently dealt with Phil at White Falls and ordered a Mueller Eraticator 8.5x25x50mm scope with the illuminated centre dot. (A little over your 300 limit) The scope was 379 plus tax and shipping. They also offer an 8.5x25x44mm for around 260 I think. Either way, they appear to be good scopes for the money and they have a very fine crosshair. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Savage or Mueller. Just my two cents worth. Best regards.

Or consider a Richards Microfit, which does require finishing work, but the final product IMO is much, much nicer than Boyds. I love my Savage 17 HMR, and may buy another for kicks, and I agree with the others, stock up on ammo, 'cause availability in summer can be nil.

Just put a Tasco 6-24 x 42 Target/Varmint on my Savage BTVS. Because of the objective diameter and the bull barrel, I needed to go with high mounts to get it to fit 
. As you would expect, it has AO too.

I have a CZ Varmint with a 5-15 3200 on top. Its more fun to shoot than I ever imagined. Another thing you may want to conside is re-sale value, should ever choose to sell it.
I really like the look of those new Savages with the thumb hole stock, and really for the money the new Stevens in 17HMR for $260.00 would be tought to beat for the money, leaves lots of room for scope and ammo purchases.FS

I think I might try the Bushnell scope made for the .17 that has the Bullet drop compensator although it has 30/30 reticle and I also am considering a Mildot scope.
The Boyd's stock was a joke - ended up trading it, and my Savage 17 and $300 for a Ruger 77/17 stainless (dulled finish) - with a laminate stock - I liked the Savage for its accuracy - but that Ruger is one beautiful gun. I plan on keeping it for 50 years so I'll get enough use to justify the extra money.
