I am looking at either a Kimber, Springfield or Para 1911 in 9mm. I need to know which one I should get. I am not a competitive shooter just a plinker and have no intentions of modifying anything. I just want a reliable trouble free 1911. I would appreciate help from actual owners and not a bunch of "I've heards".

Well, if you're planning on just plinking and not competing, go with a less expensive alternative. PARA Ordinance has the widest selection of 9mm 1911s from what I remember. Of course I have a Springfield Armory TRP Operator I intend to use in Tactical Pistol and IDPS competition.

Check out a few 1911 forums and do some searches to see what people say in their range reports.

As for Springfield Armory proucts, I have found them to be totally reliable and hella great to shoot. Same with Kimbers (I put quite a few rounds through a rented TLE/II and a buddy has a Warrior that quite simply rocked right out of the box).

I have owned pretty much every make of 1911 currently on the market, I no longer have one in the collection, but hands down for the $$$ there is no beating Kimber, my TLE II was out of this world. Now that being said, the new Para TAC-5 is a pretty wild looking 9mm, I have not seen one, but I am hoping to check one out.

Para, STI Trojan, and for knocking around Norinco NP 29 for $350. The latter worked real well right out of the box, something I couldn't say about the Trojan although that is the gun I kept and it is one great shooter. The Para P-18 offers more and with a little imagination on your part a lot more.

The Norincos will be good if you just want a plinker and a lot cheaper, the guns you mentioned are all nice, but clearly in a higher price bracket.

There is no 1911 that wont give you trouble;) But the newer ones like Steve David has shown you, as well as the XD 45 might be the way to go.

Just a thought

You can't be serious.

I have three Norincos and two Paras that say you are wrong.

Hey, slow up there, buddy. I have a Springfield Armories M1911A1 that has only given me one problem, a big one. It eats ammo faster than I can buy it, reliably.

Interesting that I have only one and that by mistake...a 1911A1 marked U.S. Property and made by Remington Rand. I have put numerous boxes of ammo of all varieties through it and have never had a misfire or stovepipe or other malfunction. Don't malign a wonderful piece of machinery. Dave

I have a Para SSP 1911 and I think it is one of the best values in a 1911. I love mine, a really great gun and you got to love that it comes from a Canadian company.
