I'm really torn as to which 1911 to buy. I'm looking to spend between $800 to $1100 and want one in .45 and more traditional looking without all the bells and whistles and no front slide serrations. Its gotta be accurate and reliable. Your opinions please.

Mil-Spec for $949 for a basic 1911 is not worth it, not when a 1911 like the Spartan or even the Trojan for a bit more $$$ has all the toys that make a 1911 what it should be. Other option is a Springfield "Loaded" model, according to Epps web-site, they have a bunch of them in. You can also get the Kimber Custom II, I think Frontier have a few in stock for around $1000.

Go and grab a nice Colt off of the Equipment Exchange. I'm a few Colts in, and I can't see myself with much else...other than a Nighthawk or Guncrafters, but that's a whole other story. I love the traditional G.I. look - haven't swapped out any grip safeties or sights. Heck, you can grab a S80, new grips, a holster, and still come out on top.

Heck, my favorite .45 is a Colt 1991 ORM billboard -- never fails, and I'm a sucker for a parkerized gun, much like a red head.

Good luck.

I would go to your club and shoot as many as you can get your hands on and find out what feels good and what you shoot the best.

Don't mean to be rude but I don't think you read my comments about not wanting or for that matter needing the extra features nor the look of front slide serrations.

Colt is definately one I'd like but most of the ones on EE have been modded with extras which I don't want. I don't see many practically new colt's for sale on EE.
