Which 20" AR should I look at???

Sorry to waste your time then guys, I prolly sound like just another un-educated fool who wants a AR for the sake of having one. Truth is I am 26 years old and got my PAL 4 years ago, since I have bought a few hunting rifles and belong to a local range. I also go hunting for small game and deer yearly.

I wanted to own a Mil-Spec rifle and learn to shoot with good old military sights. I figured what better military rifle to choose than my generations AR. I have a new found interest in military type rifles, and would like to own something in the near future. I dont have my restricted licence and I dont really plan on getting it in the near future, I was under the impression an AR was un-restricted just like most semi-auto hunting rifles (750, BAR). Kinda stupid that it falls into this group, but I guess im preaching to the choir eh!

Oh well I guess I will have to look into a M1 or M1 Garand or Lee Enfield to fill my urges. Unless someone wants to ruin my day and tell me those are restricted too. Thanks

get an RPAL and buy an AR - instead of talking, getting it done!!! :p

Buying an AR is the best thing you can do to yourself other than getting an eduation!

Company???

So I will be getting my RPAL I have signed up for the next course at my local shooting club!!! I want a good "riflemans" rifle that I can learn to shoot and possibly take some military type shooting training down the road. I am really interested in the 20" platform because I am a bigger guy at 6"1, 210lbs and I want a full size gun to shoot. I love the Diemaco C7's just the look of them hits me in that "special place" that I shouldnt be talking about with a forum full of guys!!

My question is would a Stag 4R 20" upper on a Stag telescoping lower unit and stock be as close to Canadian Mil-Spec as I could find? Would I notice any difference in fit or feel with the telescoping stock over the regular A2 fixed style?? Or would it feel roughly the same and I would have the flexability of the diff length of pull, which is a bunus.

Are Stag arms good quality firearms totally made in the USA??

This is a good thread; I'm wondering the same thing.

I'm looking to replicate the nostalgia of running PWT1/2 with a C7A1;

If you can find an r-15 buy it. For the price, they are the best thing I can find on the market. Free floating, m4 cuts, properly staked carrier key, crane ring, etc. They are built with a bunch of the stuff that the internet says you need(which you probably don't). Other manufacturers(stag) omit these, however. The R-15s are also inexpensive, and shoot really well.

I have owned both an R15, and a stag, and I would put the R15 well above the stag. Plus, I can put a krieger into my R15 for less then the initial cost of a stag.

Remington R15, I even like the color. Google it, big hit in the US, it's remington's version of the AR15. They wanted to target military personel as customers for when they are discharged and want to go hunting. Based on the familiarity of the m16 they might want to stay with it and why not, I'd love to go hunt with an AR type rifle. Also the Remington R25=AR10=308=:)

I was shooting it down to -33 in blowing snow last week. I really can not complain about this rifle. The trigger is really sweet, and light. Its accuracy is also pretty good. I just need to learn to shoot with it without a rest.

The paint is either like it or not, but if I could roam with an AR, I would have painted it anyway. The finish is quite sturdy. Even the marks on the deflector are minimal.

Always cracks me up when I hear people slagging Bushmasters. Remember the Najaf rifle? It is a Bushmaster. And if a guy with the skills of Mr Haley is willing to take it into combat, it is certainly good enough for my shooting.

because I am a bigger guy at 6"1, 210lbs and I want a full size gun to shoot.

Anyone can shoot these ARs, thats what makes them so much fun. At the service rifle shoots in Spruce Grove every month that Scott (m39A2) runs, there are plenty of women out shooting their ARs. Its a thing of beauty...

Personally Id rather shoot my M-14 or M1, those rifles got some weight behind them but again, don't need to be a big guy to shoot them.

Argggg!!!

Ahhhh damn, I got all excited seeing those pics on Rems site of them hunting varmits with it, must be somewhere it the US. I thought I could have the best of both worlds here, but I guess its back to the Mil-Spec rifle.

Can someone please answer my questions about Stag Arms posted above and if there are any other rifles that would be as good or better than a Stag please list too. Looking for a good C7 or M16A4 clone. Thanks

R15

R15 is outta the running I want a black rifle if im gonna get an AR. The only way I would go camo is if allowed me to hunt for some reason, which it doesnt in this great country!!!

So I need a 20" service rifle with either a fixed stock or telescoping stock and a removable handle with military sights and a flat top underneith for an Elcan in the future would be good.

Who makes this type of a rifle, and who stocks them in Canada???
