So my first gun was a H&R greenwing special topper jr. And I loved that gun. Got me many grouse. I am thinking I want another 20 guage. What I hope to find is a relatively accurate, double barrel, modified, full or one of each. Prefer one mod and one full??? If that exists. lol. A longer barrel for bird hunting. In order to get a lighter gun, should I be looking for a pump, or a double barrel, and what do you smart fellers reccomend?

When I decided on getting a 20ga. I happened to luck out and picked up a new in the box but earlier production blued Ruger Red Label. Well made, light and fast, just the ticket for Ruff Grouse in the sometimes thicker river bottem areas around here.

SKB/Ithaca SxS, the more common Model 100 or 200 series. With the off chance of stumbling across a 150 or 280SE variant. For an SKB/Ithaca O/U, anything in the 500 or 600 series. One probably could do worse than with the Browning Citori (the Feather or the Upland models) in 20 gauge. But I suspect you'll pay more cash for it than the older SKB shotguns.
In a pump action shotgun I recommend the older series of M37 Ithaca Featherlight shotguns for upland game hunting only. A 16 or 20 gauge with a plain barrel version is very lively between the hands IMO. Really nice for a full day of scaring up pheasants or huns. If you don't mind shooting lead shot only, the older ones can be purchased for about one third the cost of a brand new model using the same manufacturer's name.

Sxs's are classic bird guns. I'd suggest cz ringneck or cz bobwhite. Both great guns for the money. The ringneck now comes with a straight stock as well. A cheaper price gun that will do very well if you can find one is a baikal ij58 in 20ga. They do surface every now and then.

Couldn't agree more and a SxS is my favorite configuration. I have a 6 1/4lb straight stock English 12ga that is near & dear to my heart. A couple of shots of it.
I may go cheaper on the 20 guage and nicer on the 12. I like a 20 guage for the wife and kids. I think 2 guns are in order. Another topper jr 20 guage and a cz sxs 12 guage. I love guns. It's a real obsession right now. lol. I already have a 12 guage coach gun and a winchester 1200 with rifle sites on it. A man really should have at least three 12 guages in this day and age.

It's the 12ga. SxS you speak of I assume? That's a J.S.Boreham, made in England. I do have an AYA, but it's a 10ga. Mag.
Depending on your budget... here is a solid, less expensive model to consider... it is a nice upland gun.

Funny I was watching angler and hunter yesterday and watched a kid pull the triggers quite a few times and watched his Silver Reserve Mossberg fail to fire.

If one logs onto Shotgunworld dot com, this model of shotgun has a history of breaking firing pins much too early. I've heard of it from trap/skeet shooters on CGN as well.

The silver reserves are probably the worst o/u's you can buy new at this time.
These guns are known for having soft firing pins and other internals.
Spend the extra money and buy a CZ or Yildiz.
