Which .204 ruger? UPDATE PAGE 1

How is accuracy with the brownings? I want something that will punch tiny holes in targets. Maybe I should visit the "my gun shoots half inch groups all day long thread and see what guns were doing it. Thanks for the replies, keep them coming.

The Brownings have crappy triggers, but the accuracy is decent if you can get past the trigger.

I haven't shot my 204 yet. But my other X bolts have been great. 7-08, 22-250, 300winmag, 308, 30-06

how about a sako 85 varmint laminate stainless fluted .thats the one i would buy .
I have a Sako 85 varmint laminate in 204 and a Cooper model 51 204 all stainless with a laminate stock. The Cooper has a few features that for me make it a bit more desirable than the Sako. Both rifles are extremely accurate but I do not like the fact that the XS action on the Sako limits the COAL to the DM mag size. The set trigger on the Sako is a huge + although. But both the Sako and Cooper are double the price of a Browning so if your not sure a 204 will make you happy the Browning might be a better choice to start with.

What twist rates do you guys have in your guns? I think I am leaning towards CZ, Remington or Tikka so far. Or, maybe I will get super lucky and find another Heavy weight Sako L461 in .222 Rem and re-barrel. Anybody with a one laying around they need to sell?

I have a 20 Tactical which produces about the same ballistics as a 204R but in a better designed cartridge, and a 1 in 12" twist rate works well for the 39gr Blitzking.

I think I am down to a CZ Varmint or Tikka. I really don't care for the models in the T3x line up though. Gonna have to go handle a few. How are the triggers on either?

Any targets anybody cares to show that their 204 did?

You're going to find that 1 in 12 is pretty much standard fare for production rifles in .204. I have a 1 in 10 Pac-Nor barrel on a Rem 700 VLS that I find does shoot the heavier bullets (40-50 gr) much better, and still shoots the usual weights (32-39 gr) just fine.

The Tikkas have excellent triggers, my CZ trigger did require adjusting to remove the creep, but now it is quote good.

I have a Cooper 204 now, which replaced a CZ Varmint in 204. Primarily the Cooper is "prettier". The CZ bolt handle will give you ocular bell issues with a big scope mounted low to the barrel (CZ makes a re-profiled handle to address the issue). Dollar for dollar, the CZ is a good value.

I purchased a very gently used 527 Varmint this morning. I'll keep up with the range results when they come. I would also like to thank one of our site sponsors MARSTAR for the great deal. Can't wait try her out!

Ruger M77 Hawkeye Predator... it is a nice balance of hunting style with bench accuracy... splits the difference between too light a rifle on the bench and too heavy a rifle in the field.

It is stainless though, in a nice handling, and aesthetically pleasing laminate stock.

+1 on the Hawkeye predator. I've owned 4 204 rugers and this is the best one I've owned by far
