Did you find a .22LR? I have a really nice Dan Wesson .22LR I would part with. This gun is the same size as their .357 models. Long bbl. The barrels are interchangeable so you could swap barrels if you wanted to. This is a DA model. These guns are quite rare, especially the .22LR and expensive to buy. I can email or text photos of the gun.
Double action: S&W Model 17 if you don't have 12(6); S&W Model 18 or Model 34 or 63 if you do.
Single Action: Ruger single six or wrangler.
Those would be my choices for a wheelgun in .22lr.

NAA.
12(6) is a class of prohibited handguns. Nothing to do with a Model 12 6 shot .38, unless the Model 12 has a barrel under 105mm. Then it is a 12(6).
The Model 34 above is 12(6) based on its barrel length of 101mm.
An often overlooked revolver is the High Standard Sentinel.
These are great shooters and usually carry a modest price tag.
About the Ruger SP 101 in 22: I had one, it was fun to shoot for me, and I liked the way it looked and felt in the hand. But even with Wolff springs, it was difficult for kids to shoot. Both cocking the hammer and pulling the trigger in DA are pretty stiff. If part of the intended purpose of a 22 revolver is to take out kids or other people with weaker hands, I'd recommend a different design. The Single Six is much easier to ####, if anything because the hammer is longer.
