I could use a .22 magnum for a lightweight carry gun while out training and running my Brittany. Winter time see's a heavy concrntration of coyotes where we train so I was thinking a .22 mag would ruin a coyotes day if he got within 100 yds. Coulddn't care less if they drop in thier tracks, just want them away from us. What I should have bought years ago was the Ruger 96/22M but now they are as scarce as an honest politician. Any suggestions? Is the Remington 597 worth looking at?

If your into bolt guns . I bought a Zastava 22 mag from Gagnons for $299. With the Hornady 30 gn shells it shoots a ragged hole at 50 mtrs. Haven't had much time to shoot it at 100 yet. Very happy with fit and function. Finish on wood could use improvement .Rifle is comfortable to carry as well.

Just my opinion.

more gun supply has the savage 305f carbine in .22 mag, with 13"barrel. this would be perfect for what you're after, and on for $250.
I have the norinco .22LR version and it is very handy.

.22 Magnum rifle

I have a Ruger 77/22 Magnum in stainless/synthetic..........superb action, smooth, 10 rd. rotary mag., all around a nice gun......

I once had a Winchester 9422M and it was a real nice rifle. In a moment of temporary insanity, I sold it, and I wish I could have it back. It was a great .22 mag. A Ruger 10/22 magnum would be great. I think the Remmy would be worth looking at too.

I'd seriously consider this ^

I have the Savage 300F (.22LR instead of WMR) and it is simply fantastic. The trigger started off just little heavy but a super simple mod lightened it up considerably. It is a dream to carry and is still very accurate even with the short sight radius.

I'd have no qualms about sending lead downrange at a yote out to 100 yards so long and you're not going for a head shot. It's easily accurate enough for a 'vitals' shot, and a .22WMR will certainly do the job.

My choices
1) CZ 452 in any configuration
2) Zastava Z-5
3) CZ 455 in any configuration
4) Savage in any config
5) CZ 512
6) Henry, or a used Win 9422M
Then Ruger, Marlin and finally Remington.
There's a lot of other choices, like Anschutz, but most are to expensive for me. Good luck.
