Which 223 to place inside an AICS?

Since I don't need a quality stock or bedding if I plan to switch to aics, which one should I get?

rem 700 SPS tactical?

Will the 20 inch models fit inside an aics?
Will they therefore be converted to box mags?

Thanks

And 2nd question, if not considering aics, which 223 would you get to do target?

I've heard that the sps tactical, as it is, has a very flexible stock, and I dislike that...

i'd start with the sps tac in .223. try the stock, never hurts. i liked the houge but i am working on getting a look that i like. mine was good to 300 with the houge also, thats as far as i can shoot at the range here. i currently have a sps-v stock on it but i am looking for a thumbhole because i find it more comfortable. my opinion. i dont see why it (.223) wont fit into a SA ACIS chassis tho, the 700 sa is pretty much the same, the .223 just has a spacer in the mag, unlike the .308 which doesnt.

The only difference on the AICS stocks is the magazine between the .308 and .223. When you order the stock you must specify that it is for the .223 as the default is .308. The 20" SPS tactical (or any SA Rem 700 for that matter) will fit into the SA AICS. It will be converted to a 10 round detachable magazine.

Had one - shot very poorly with factory ammo but 5 inside a dime with handloads of 69g smk over 24.8 Varget. Targets looked like they were shot from two different rifles.

I have an sps tactical in .223, and I like it very much. There are things to look for if possible when buying a new remington. Ie: short chamber, misaligned base mount holes. My base holes are slightly off, fixed this with Burris offset rings. The hogue forestock is very flexible, however mine does not touch the barrel anywhere while on a bipod. Accuracy whith hand loads (I'm still a novice at this) is acceptable for varmints/targets IMO.

Very interesting ...

I have a 20" SPS in .223 and right now the best load seems to be 25gr of Varget. I've only shot 55gr VMAX with it since they are cheap and plentiful ... I started my minimum load at 25gr and went up to 26gr, maybe I'll have to back off to 24.8 and see what happens. I have some 69gr SMKs on hand too. At present the 25gr if Varget and VMAX has given me a very nice bughole.

Interesting point about the offset holes for the scope base. I could help but notice that when I mounted my SIII 10x42 I had to dial in quite a bit of "right" before I was on target. I was wondering if I had put in the Zee ring inserts wrong. Could Remington really be that sloppy in their tooling??? The rifle shoots pretty well however.

I'm also really toying with the idea if an AICS 1.5 but may be pursuaded to go with an XLR instead.
