Not saying that isn't true, just that a unaltered M71/84 is not a antique (a altered one would basically just be a M71 anyways). I think what the OP is trying to do is get a list of the most 'modern' firearms he can buy without a PAL. In the case of antique rifles, only centerfire single shots with a bore greater than 8.3mm are antiques (the only way to get a centerfire with multiple shots being a double barrel of some sort).
Sorry, I may have misunderstood your statement then but you are right with your statement that only the single shot M71 version is antique status as is. I just wanted to point out that a M71/84 can be reverted to the single shot version and become a antique status rifle as the law is written.
I know that when the LGR was in place the CFC would not allow the removal of the M71/84 from the LGR for their own not fully explained but also not written in law reasons, but now that the LGR is gone and the M71/84 is no longer a registered firearm, they can not stop people from permanently converting their M71/84's to meet antique status criteria as written in the firearms laws into the almost the same M71 rifle.
A reverse situation arises when somebody does the very simple conversion of a antique status Vetterli magazine fed rimfire to centre fire, the RCMP had no issues with people doing that as they then got to put it onto their books at the time of the LGR.
