Which .308 Rifle would you pick?

Which would you choose?

So, I've got some bonus cash burning a hole in my bank account and I'm thinking of buying a new .308 battle rifle. Problem is I'm torn about what I want to get. So far my picks have been:

- Keltec RFB
- LRB M14 (imported of course :p)
- HK MR762A1(also known as the MR308)
- Robinson Arms XCR-M (when its available)
- DPMS Panther LR308

Out of the above, what would you choose and why?

Feel free to recommend others of course but I'm looking specifically for .308win/7.62x51 NATO. :)

***Please note, I'm not looking for cheap, I'm looking for high quality and accuracy. I've already gone down the Norc route (which was a lot of fun!) and I'm looking for something better now***

M14 would be a good start. They're fun and cheap and you can tinker with it. Also it will leave you with some of that spare money for ammo. That's the one downside of the .308 platform is that it's no problem going thru a couple of hundred rounds per session, and even reloading it's not cheap. I am currently feeding 2 M14's an Armalite AR10 and a bolt gun, and although I like them more than my ar15 (the AR10 is by far my favorite) I look at the cost of feeding my ar15 and sigh. I really want to do another AR10 but man it's breaking the bank.
 
Unrestricted = XCR-M - Bit of a unkown but fair to say will be quite similiar to the XCR-L. Therefor guessing it should be a O.K. rifle. Unrestricted & shortest of the bunch folded up with that F.A.S.T. stock is really my only reason for buying one.

Not on your list but in my opinion the best bang for the buck in the AR10 group if you want a AR10 is LMT-LM308MWSF. Price is good comparativly to the others for what you get. I think that the barrel length is about optimum for a short AR. Nice features and mags are not super pricey and hard to get (poke @ H&K).

Yep. Especially at the current price point very hard to beat. If you have less to spend, a M305 is hard to beat at that price point as well given that it costs less than a couple of range outings.

XCR-M, well, the -L has/had a pile of teething problems. Some of these are somewhat fixed. Do you want to alpha test the -M?

Ya I agree that sure has. Hopefully they learned from it and the similiarity of the designs are close enough to not have to go through that again. Currently if you put your name on the list for a XCR-M you are looking at recieving one summer timen any way. If there are issues they should be resolved by then.....I would hope. Cross fingers. One great thing about Wolverine though is they put your name on the list and call you when its ready with no deposit required. Did this with my Armalite AR10 when I heard they were not going to be able to be shipped over the border any more and they held up there end and on time to boot.
 
I picked the DPMS Panther because a) I love the AR platform, b) it's US made, c) you didn't have the LMT-LM308MWSF on your list. :D

You didn't mention whether you want a restricted or non-restricted rifle, though.

It doesn't look like they learned from the design issues though. The single perpendicular bolt holding on the barrel is still there in the XCR-M as best as I can tell. I have seen this come loose on .223 versions, and suspect that it is one of the major contributors to the wandering zeros I've seen with XCRs.

I haven't seen the inside of a -M yet, but wonder if they are still using that hokey ejector held on with 2 screws.

I am sure that these issues could only be magnified on a 308-class cartridge.

Maybe they learned to fix the quality control issues that the xcr-l had/has. Maybe.

Do you want a non-restricted? That could be the deciding factor. In which case, yeah the LRB.

I love this country and consider myself blessed to be a citizen, but we have some whacked out firearms laws. Non-restricted, restricted, it's goofy.

Oh well, proud to be Canadian! Whatever you get, put a maple leaf on it! :cool:
 
I owned an XCR-L 223 Rem and was so satisfied with it that I'll buy an XCR-M 260 Rem or 243 Win as soon as it is available.
Why pay top dollar for a rifle that can only be used on a shooting range when you can get an excellent rifle which is non-restricted?

Forgot to say that I might buy a SAN SAPR rifle if it becomes available!

non restricted- RFB...i have a few and they are a great rifle in a small package.

restricted- LMT308MWS... this rifle kicks a$$ and takes names, super accurate and easy to change calibre.

I do agree if not properly tightened that would be an issue and cause a loss of ZERO

I have one of the latest versions of the XCR-L, 5.56 and 7.62 Conversion Kit, that single Hex Screw "bolt" if torqued properly as in the manual states, has NOT come lose in my case. I have NOT experienced any loss of ZERO after 1200rds down the range. You need to know your equipment and take care of it like any other mechanical device.

I am a fan of the XCR and I think the XCR-M will be a great .308
 
I'd love to own the FN C1! I still don't understand why its a prohib since DSA makes a semi only version.

LMT308MWS sounds really interesting, is Questar the only vendor in Canada? Since I'm familiar with the AR platform this might be a serious contender!

Problem is also that I really do love the M14 platform...I'm also looking at the Springfield Match/Super Match...how does it compare to LRB?

I considered the FNAR but the problem I have with it is lack of parts in Canada...other than that, its a great rifle!
 
I absolutely love my Armalite AR10. And it WILL cut clover leafs at 100 all day long. Since they were difficult to get parts (Thanks ITAR) you couldn't get complete uppers, so I thought I would have to do a frankenbuild to get a carbine, but apparantly they have now been approved for export (HUGE thanks to Wolverine:dancingbanana::dancingbanana:) I may have to buy a complete rifle.
