Which .375 H+H Should I buy?

How do you like it? I haven't seen one yet, although I rarely get a chance to wander around gun stores much. :)

I don't have the rifle yet I ordered it from Irunguns for less than $500. Anyway, better not hijack this thread anymore because the discussion is about the 375 H&H ;)

OP, You should skip over the .375 and go straight for a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby. It shoots as flat as a .300 magnum when loaded to its potential, and hits harder than a .458. Its the cartridge the .375 always wanted to be. Now I have it on good authority that such a rifle is for sale in the EE right now, with a 4X Zeiss scope for about half of what you've budgeted for. You don't even have to worry about taxes or shipping.

How's that for self serving!

I have the CZ 550 American Safari Magnum and she is a beauty!! Very and I mean VERY nice to shoot. I can get mine to group about 1" at 100 yards. It has a very smooth action and is an all around pleasure to shoot.

You speak the truth even if you are abandoning the cause!

The reason I like the BRNO/CZs is the quality.

I know they are heavy but some of that comes from little things like the magazine follower. It is machined, not cast or MIM or god forbid plastic, it was machined.

I also like their 5 round magazine capacities. Especially on my 602 .375 H&H.

If you’re stuck on the 375, Sako is a good rifle. Personally after hunting in the arctic and mountains and living there for many years I would go with a trim, 9.3 or 35 whelen. (Tikka t3) or a 300 WinMag with a 200 grain partition, is plenty of medicine for a grizzly bear by the way, when I moved up north, I asked an experienced Inuit Hunter what he used for polar bear and coastal grizzly, he cocked his head and thought for a minute,”he said the 270 is good but the 308 is better”. I have seen many big bear his fall to the 30 odd six and 300 WinMag, nothing wrong with a good 338 either, personally I would not go to the 375. Just my two cents

Holy necro-thread batman, chuckle! But here we go...

I like the classic styling of the Ruger RSM, and if I was buying a rifle for Africa, that is probably what I would get.

Agreed

I also want to second the idea of considering a .416 Rigby. Just worth it for the nostalgia alone.

Agreed!!!

My plan is to use a Ruger RSM in 375 H&H for plains game and a 416 Rigby for cape buffalo.

Cheers

Just picked up a mint Parker Hale Safari model 1100m in 375HH in a magnum length Mauser action. No frills but a decent shooter. For a rifle from the late sixties it has been glass bedded and has a weighted butt stock(to assist managing the recoil and balance),dual cross-bolts and open sights, everything that I want! The only issue I see is the Mauser wing safety, so have to look for really high mounts.

Sako 85 Bavarian, Kodiak, Grizzly, Brown Bear.

I have the Bavarian. Loved the barrel length, set trigger, metal blueing, and iron sights. Hated the stock so I dropped it into a laminate with a grind-to-fit recoil pad. Perfect rifle for me.

Assembled a Kodiak for a buddy. Love the shorter barrel. Had a very comfortable balance. I like it almost as much as my 375.

Assembled another for a colleague. I can't remember if it was a Grizzly or Brown Bear. Another awesome rifle.

No issues with ejected brass not clearing the scope? Some Sako 85's have this issue.
