Which $3K "pre-built" AR?

Just a word of warning despite looking like an AR the KAC series uses proprietary parts which can be hard to source if broken, ie the bolt only works in KAC rifles and not any AR series.

OP,
Any reason it MUST be a $3K AR? Are you looking for exclusivity, reliability, looks? All of the above?
Personally, I would get any middle to top tier AR like a DD, CC, Colt USA, VLTOR etc. with a proven track record. Top it with good accessories like a Aimpoint T-1 or 2, Raptor charging handle, good quality sling, upgraded trigger pack, many good mags and spend the rest on ammo. You'll have a very functional gun that will hold good resale and be a pleasure to shoot and show off.
When you start with a $3K gun, you likely still have to add stuff to it which really increases your capital outlay with a very small improvement in noticeable performance.

If you had 3K to spend on a pre-built AR, what would you buy? I don't wanna hear about what I should build. Not really interested in that route.

What do you want to do with it? Are you looking for a compact SBR? A do all middy? A precision bench shooter? Or do you just want to be the most Gucci looking SOB on the range who despite having a grossly overpriced warsport rifle, still can't shoot for sh!t?

I wanted a Barrett.

I wanted an AR.

Now I have a Barrett AR.

I bought a REC7, and I'm happy. It's a Gen 1. I paid $1995. I have my AR. I look at it. I officially shoot it rarely.

I went with a Les Baer, and I love it. A bit more than $3K at the time though, and with the dollar being what it is, could be a bit above your budget.

To be honest I would by anything by BCM, or Colt. Currently, I have a BCM 14.5 key mod upper running on a SA 20 lower. Now, if they could get in the EAG BCM 14.5 as built for Pat Rogers I would be happy. I would be even happier if they make the AR Family in restricted.

Well depending on what you had planned for your rifle I'd recommend a Colt Canada MRR 11.6 for CQB (or just about anything actually).

A CC MRR 18" when wanting to reach out a little farther or a DPMS Recon G2 in .308 if you're wanting to knock down those metal plates with a little more authority (yet still be similar to an AR-15 sized package).

Of course if you were after a NR AR (not that we actually have that option for us civvies in Canada) then perhaps a nice ACR with a larger calibre barrel... upgrade for hunting... Perhaps even an ATRS Modern Varminter for Coyotes and such...

Otherwise a DD in any flavour wouldn't disappoint; as others have said a KAC would do quite nicely and generally holds the top spot of AR mastery although some may say different...

Les Baer's have one of the best accuracy guarantee's at .5 MOA, if that's your thing; plus I've heard nothing but high praises from fellow GunNutz that shoot them.

If I were to choose a Piston AR platform a HK MR223 or MR308 would work well although they might come in just a tad over your $3,000 price point.

Personally if I were somehow awarded $3,000 to spend on an AR I'd get one of those Colt LE6933 Commando's for sale from a site sponsor right now, actually make it two since they'd likely come in under $3,000 for the pair. Why, well for me they are the epitome of AR'ism and just look awesome, plus they'll shoot forever w/o needing much, are like Lego for gun guys and gals (what AR isn't) and in the right hands they can still do it all and well.

Otherwise I'd fall back to me all time favourite which is basically any product from Colt Canada. Why you say, well because when the world turns nasty and you just need an AR that's going to work each and every time you pull the trigger, while providing extremely good accuracy with anything you feed it CC's are great.
CC's do all that while maintaining one of the best reputations in the world from the Men and Women who work with these in the field day in and day out too.

Cheers D

Some great info here, for sure.

Why, you ask? Well, I think that the AR is just the epitome of a tactical firearm. When I think guns, I think AR. And, I'd rather get one now, before our fearless leader brings down the chit-storm down on them too.

My $3K budget was set at that because, honestly, I thought that's what a guy had to spend to get a GOOD one, but if I can spend $2K and get a great gun and have money left over for other goodies, then that's perfect! Just means I'm THAT much closer to my gun now. Lol

I'm definitely looking for something in the short(er) barrel. Maybe a max of 11.5"? I much prefer the looks of the traditional CQB AR. Not looking to shoot 1000 yards or anything like that. I'd be happy with even 200 yards. Can't shoot them anywhere but a range anyway, right?
