Which 50's are available to Canada

Hmmm. Could have sworn that a couple other barrel blank importers had told me they couldn't get them out of the states either.

Come to think of it, it may have been in one of dirteemax's .50 cal build threads where I read about importing a non-chambered .50 cal barrel vs. a .50 BMG barrel. With one being OK, the other a "no no"!

Also, as mentioned by another member, and was also going through my head, .50 cal BP barrels, .50 cal Beowulf, etc. barrels are imported from the US without issues.

I have always wanted to own and shoot a .50 BMG, and after reading dirteemax's build thread a while back, it got me thinking about slowly picking up .50 cal high end rifle 'Bits', and then have a good Canadian gunsmith assembly it for me.

If I had the coin sitting in my pocket, in one lump sum, I'd be all over .50 cal PGW folder!!

Just like this "Bad Boy".......................errrr..........minus the 'Can' of course!!! :)

I live in Burlington! I have a LRT-3 folder from PGW if you want to try it out let me know. I could definitely help you piece a budget .50BMG single shot together on a budget and know a really good gunsmith right here in Ontario that does excellent work.

I may take you up on the offer Sir.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think I may have met you one day at Silverdale last year.

I met MattMoser last year when I picked up some of his gongs, after seeing his PGW's, I was impressed a Canadian company were producing such a nice gun.

If I can afford it, I would like to own a PGW gun, and then some day build one to my specs.....................some day!!! LOL

We could discuss this until we were blue in the face I suppose, seems kinda pointless to keep going over this.

If I were you I would just call ATRS and they will confirm that what I"m telling you is how it is and that they would be more then happy to get you a barrel for a 50BMG.

Unless that has changed in the last month.

I can barely afford to shoot the .50 I have now, let alone build another ;)

I wish we could use cans!

A suppressed 50 is a different animal. They sound wicked cool but the recoil impulse is very different from a braked rifle. First time we tried it all the snipers were getting scope kissed due to the change in the recoil moment.

I'm not really interested in a .50 BMG due to the excessive operating costs but a 510 Whisper would be right up my alley. Only prob is sourcing a fast twist barrel to stabilize the subsonics. Essentially the US is the only source for something like that.

Though you cannot have the McMillan Tac-50 rifle shipped to Canada, you can buy all of the parts for the Tac-50 and have it assembled by someone. The actions are importable and available here in Canada, and you can order the stock direct from McMillan or any of their fine distributors here. Then it is just down to finding the barrel, and from what I hear you can scare a Lilja barrel, which is if I am not mistaken what McMillan uses.

.

I think that may be harder than you think as the TAC50 is pretty much a dead give away on an application. I doubt it would get approval. The rest of the McMillan actions however can be imported without too much hassle.

As for getting a TAC50 built up here, is the TAC50 not proscribed at prohibited in Canuckistan? I am not sure, did not bother to check and am relying on an old brains memeory, but it would warrant further investigation prior to doing the import/export dance.
